Just got some bad news (at least for me) from BH. They did receive a shipment but mine is not on the shipping list.

They told me that the next shipment arrives Nov. 30. I ordered on September 20. Don't know if they meant that mine will be sent in that shipment or that everyone has to wait till then.

Hey ricardo, when did you place your order? Also when did they receive their current shipment? Thanks in advance!

I ordered on April 9th with Hot Rod Cameras right after the announcement and I'm supposedly 17 on the list. I just can't believe it. I still haven't gotten any notification. I've seen on other forums that #10 is receiving theirs and #12 has heard nothing. People who ordered in August at BH and Adorama are getting cameras. I'll NEVER pre-order with Hot Rod again.

Rick.. and Ric.. nice! You guys are giving me hope! I am not doing anything at all yet, though I just lost out on some work to shoot areal video if I had a drone. Waiting on the Phantom 5.. rumor has it it will have a removable lens setup like the Inspire 2... hoping for something like that with RAW recording capability.. hopefully without having to buy a license (side note..why the heck do you have to pay an additional $1300 to record CinemaDNG (which I thought was free) and ProRes on the Inspire 2 setup?).

I am hoping once I get a good lens, the BM4K, and possibly a drone, I can land some side work. It wont be my main source of income, more like hopefully recouping the costs of gear doing some fun work.

Ricardo (man, lot of Ric*s on this forum!), I ordered mine Sept 18, from BH. I hope I am in this shipment, but I suspect unless they got a huge shipment I will be in the one with you. Not holding my breath yet!

My latest update from B&H. I ordered on April 12. They are receiving a shipment on November 6. I should be getting a camera in that shipment. Fingers crossed, since I'm traveling to Europe mid-November.

I would urge you to reconsider actually. Hot Rod Cameras is one of the best camera shops in California if not the country. I spoke to them personally and I can assure you that they're doing the best they can to fulfill all the orders (including mine), but BMD just isn't shipping in substantial numbers at all despite of what they might say online. If the person who pre-orderered at Adorama in August got theirs, it's because they probably were in the top 10 pre-orders and not because Adorama got 200 units and Hot Rod didn't. The number of units which BMD has shipped so far is so ridiculously low, once again, they have fooled all of us into thinking that things would be different this time around. If it wasn't for the fact that the Pocket 4K is such an incredible product, I'm sure many of us would have bought GH5's or something else by now.

Just talked to rep at BH. I ordered Sep 18. Rep said my order is expected Dec 30, maybe later. Good God.. this is ridiculous. So it sounds like the ramp-up to fulfill orders is as bad as it was on several other cameras if its going to take 4 months before I get my camera. I suspect I will hear new camera announcements before mine arrives. That blows.

That’s the truth, Jim. And some might say “wisdom.”

Well, that works until the dementia sets in. But thankfully we’re not there... yet. “Make hay while the sun shines” is true at any age when the sun shines from within.

Anyone have an update on shipping from Adorama? I have reached out to them but no one will give me specifics on batches. Could anyone pm me with a rep that will answer questions honestly? I pre ordered on 9/23 after footage started releasing from 3rd parties.

BH must have received the lot in the last couple of days. BH is now now saying "limited quantities" instead of pre order.

I ordered on the 20th. of september.

I gave up, and have ordered the new Nikon Z6 instead. Yes, more money, not a real cine camera, but it will work, for, both high end video and still photography, which I am still doing a lot of. And it has an OLED EVF with great optics in front of it, with a similar viewing experience to the larger BM EVF, which I love!

Got my big cameras for serious cine work, th new Pocket was something to mess around with. Baybe later after all the issues are sorted out.

“The times, they are a’changin” certainly is true for those big manufacturers with new camera platforms going after a higher end demographic but still with an emphasis on photography and hybrid video. Good to keep an eye on what’s out there.

My attitude was to order it and forget about it. No amount of protest would change things. I wanted the camera right away, but I know the drill. It's a small company compared to the giants like Canon and Sony etc. In the end I want all great new features of the camera, but I want it to work. I'm sure they are working as hard as they can to deliver. It's in their interest. They want to make a profit. Rushing the process can lead to quality control issues and as hard as they are trying they will still exist. I ordered in early April and now that the camera has arrived, I couldn't be happier. Yes, there were several projects where it would have come in handy this summer, but I already had cameras that could get the job done. Now I have a new tool in the shed. A good one. In the past five or six years things have changed a lot, for the better, because BM has been delivering advanced gear at a very reasonable price. I've had to wait longer than I expected for each new offering, but their products were still head and shoulders above anything else on the market for the price. Even after a couple of years, late delivery and all, the Ursa Mini still can't be touched for price/performance! That's something.

Ricardo,

My April 13 order from B&H now says, "In stock, order sent to warehouse." It's embarrassing how excited I am for this camera. I guess 6 1/2 months of waiting makes the heart grow fonder.

I got it! I googled the camera last night and saw that it was available at an online retailer here in The Netherlands and ordered it directly.

Just got it this afternoon. It feels really light. Got a viltrox on it with the Sigma18-35 and the thing tumbles to the front :)

Are there any guides if this combo would fit a ronin s easily?

I pre-ordered through B&H on April 23rd. As we all know, it's been mostly a ghost-town from there. I've purchased many things from them - so I was excited to place my pre-order. It sounds like it's a BM issue why they are trickling out from there.

I ended up placing an order through Safe Harbor a week or two ago - we'll see how long that takes - BUT - I saw someone mention Kellards last week as an option that seems to be moving fairly fast. I emailed them and got on a waiting list.

Jake from Kellards emailed me Tuesday of this week and said they had some coming in and that I could order if I'd like and they hoped to ship out this week. I immediately went to their site and the camera showed pre-order vs unavailable - so I ordered.

I received a shipping notice yesterday, and it will be here tomorrow! I've been out of town on a family funeral trip and back late tonight - so tomorrow I'll have my camera!

Cancelled my B&H pre-order. Hopefully that helps one of you get moved up the chain a slot.

Excited!

Got mine from B&H yesterday! It actually came Tuesday but required a signature and no one was home.

The odd thing was that I never got a shipping notification from B&H, and the shipping date on their website said 10/30...which was the day it arrived...so I'm a bit confused but nonetheless delighted!

Already taken a few test shots with the camera and am like a little kid at Christmas. For reference, I ordered April 10th. B&H must have gotten a surprise shipment or something because less than a week ago B&H chat told me to expect it in December.

Just contacted B&H about my October 10th order and their estimation was that they'd receive a shipment with my camera in it "by the end of December." I'm probably among the latest to get an order in but I'm still hoping that customer service just sent me a canned response and it won't actually take that long...

Glad to say I have a tracking number for my pocket ordered from Scan in September, not heard anything about my pre order from cvp from way back when.

I will say that Scan, for such a large company have been excellent. They’re probably the largest of the official resellers in the U.K. but really not well known yet for pro video- when I contacted them in September they had 9 pre orders and I became the 10th.

They’ve been great, respond within an hour to my weekly requests and they even sent me to the European launch event for the pocket camera a few weeks ago. And to top it all of they were seventy quid cheaper than everyone else.

Give them a shout if you don’t have a pre order I’d recommend them in a heartbeat.

Now to negotiate with the wife to re schedule our weekend!

Unlike most (smart) people, I pre-ordered late. Very late. September 9th late lol. After quickly realizing B&H wasn't gonna cut it for me, I started searching online for smaller stores like Kellards and Safe Harbor (whose ETA is NOT 1-2 weeks, unlike what's stated in their site), but couldn't find one that had any in stock.

Luckily, I found one on eBay! Sure, I had to pay a few hundred bucks more, but this is camera is totally worth it and now I have mine already! I hope this helps someone! Just keep digging and you never know what you can find :D

Ricardo.. same thing was told to me yesterday. Dec 30 or later.. I was like.. what.. come on.. its going to be 4 months after they started shipping before I get it from the larger US distributor of cameras?? This is nuts. Apparently they are up in the May/June pre-order time frame, and I suspect that the bulk of the pre-orders were from April. So hopefully they are just saying that to shut everyone up for a couple months and maybe they have orders coming in long before then.

Still need a lens, metabones adapter, and one of those hand held gimbals.. so got some time, but regardless I want to play with it already!!

Thanks whoever recommended Visual Impact in the UK. I ordered about 3 weeks ago and called yesterday. They've been getting small shipments every week and apparently I'm now number 1 in the queue. So hoping to have a camera for a job next Saturday...

I ordered about two days after the announcement with CVP and still nothing!

On a side note.. speaking of ordering.. I have been on the fence about which speed booster to get. The MetaBones is the "best", Vitrox supposedly is comparable, but I saw someone post about the Aputure DEC LensRegain, did some watching, and wow..that thing is impressive. It is only .75 boosted, 1 stop regain still, but it has a wireless remote to control focus and iris. In particular it looked very cool where you can set two points and shift between those two slow/fast. And the kicker is that it was $400, but is on sale for $150 on their site. So it was less than the Vitrox and it comes with a nice case, wireless control, etc. So I am taking a chance. Several videos show it on gh5, gh4, older BMPCC, so I am sure it will work on BM4KPCC.
I think I understand that the unit itself talks to the lenses, not the camera, so I suspect there could be some compatibility issues with some lenses.. not sure. It is EF to MFT btw. Saw a lot of demos with the Sigma 18-35 which I think is the lens I will most likely buy first.
K.. didnt want to hijack the thread as much as share what I hope is a fantastic purchase for the price since so many people in this thread and a few others are talking about boosters as well. Hope it turns out worth the savings and others find it useful.

Joakely, read the entire thread! Adorama and B&H have shipped at least 200 units each to US customers, HotRod Camera has shipped several cameras (not sure if exact number, but two of their customers indicated here getting their cameras). Not a, whole lot total, but they are shipping, dealers are shipping them out on a first ordered, first to receive basis.
Cheers

Damn.

A while ago I asked if it was wise to bother pre-ordering and quite a few said it probably wouldn’t matter.
I eventually pre-ordered a few days ago...just for the hell of it. So now on my B&H order status it says “back ordered”

So now that I’ve ordered it, you think my camera will ship once I’m in the chute?

This sucks. I would’ve pre-ordered months ago.

I ordered Sept 18 and was told not to expect it before Dec 30. That is just stupid though.. I seriously doubt they got a massive lot of pre-orders in May - August.. with the majority mosts likely coming in April, and then another burst in Sept/Oct due to it finally releasing. I really think BH is just telling people that to stop them from calling in every other day asking about orders. A few BH and Adoroma (posted elsewhere) said they were told end of Nov (they were april pre-orders) and now have them in hand or shipping. As BM ramps up I suspect BH will get a lot more sooner than later. How all this time they said "we dont know when well get and how many.." and now they suddenly know that they wont get enough in before end of year to fulfil the latter half of pre-orders? I dont buy it.

First time trying a BM camera. I'm waiting for my preorder that i made in Aug. Can any one confirm that the above adapter works? It seems almost too good to be true. I'm a bit of a newb on a budget, just want to make sure I'm getting the right thing.

I know it ain’t pretty, but I expect it will take to the end of December or early January to clear all preorders. A preorder means ordered before the camera actually shipped as production units so that was near the end of September. That’s almost six months of preorders to keep things in perspective. It may take four months to clear that demand and then there’s the demand from the many people who are wary of preorders and don’t need the drama and order after its been released and the reviews are in. That pretty much takes up October and much of November.

I think orders in 2018 will only be caught up by early March 2019. Familiar story, nothing new there except each new camera does draw in new converts and they must find it all rather strange to wait almost a year for a camera to have supply = demand.

The alternative to this is to keep a new camera under wraps for an additional six months while you ramp up production to be able to take orders the day the camera is announced. This might happen if BMD either decides to stay mum about new cameras until IBC each year or they set production to start the beginning of October to have cameras to meet the demand at NAB the following year.

The downside and perhaps one of the reasons they didn’t take this approach might be the race to have a competitive advantage and the need to manage cash flow. The reality though is that BMD has not been surpassed by anyone for their combination of features and price so that urgency may not be justified forever.

The ultimate benefit of changing their cycle is that the cameras will be increasingly perceived as mainstream, reliable, and dependable. Related to those perceptions, it’s a given the change in life cycle may afford them time to increase their quality control.

Rick, I do not doubt you are wrong. Supposedly this 4K has better low light than their top of the line cameras now.. so I would assume that in 2019 they will have a new (or updated) Ursa Mini Pro (Ursa Mini Pro 2?) that would include a better dual ISO sensor.. but not sure about this. There are obvious reasons to go Mini Pro vs this camera, but it seems like for mainstream this camera is going to be their best selling ever given what it does and the price.
