Hi

I have preordered this Camera to remplace my old EOS 550D. I have a budget of $1500 for a lens or lenses for the Pocket Camera. Any suggestion as to which I should look for? Maybe there is one good lens for all round video shooting or maybe I need several? I have been looking at the Panasonic 35-100MM f/2.8 Lumix G Vario lens.

The PCC's crop factor is going to make that 35-100mm lens a loooong tele, certainly not an all-round shooter.

John Brawley is fond of the Panny/Lumix 12-35mm / F2.8 as a walkaround lens. Since the PCC's sensor is Super 16 in size, this zoom will give you the equivalent field of view a 36-105mm lens would have on a "full frame" sensor. a 12~35mm lens will, I agree, be a good lens to keep on the camera. Normally when I have reason/budget to pull out my SR3 (same size image as PCC) I tend to be on a 16mm lens, going to 12 and 25 (and longer sometimes) for certain shots.

Just remember that these Panasonic and Olympus lenses all rely on in-camera adjustments to correct distortion and chromatic aberrations. The BMPCC does not include in-camera corrections The Panasonic Lumix G Vario 12-35mm OIS zoom has 5.8% distortion at 12mm according to Photozone. Looks much better at 24mm and 35mm. The Panny zooms are certainly convenient for a walkabout lens but I think prime lenses will give better results for serious work.
