Best budget V mount for Pocket 4K suggestions

PostThu Jan 10, 2019 3:01 pm

I am still waiting for my Pocket 4K but am looking for a good V-mount solution to power the camera by D-tap but also with a USB power out to run a Blackmagic micro-converter to pipe the HDMI out into my SDI-in EVF.

I'd like the lowest price with the best run time. Any recommendations gratefully accepted!

And ideally compatibility with the Ursa Mini Pro so I can futureproof my investment (for the dream upgrade).

Thanks!

Pete, be careful looking for the lowest price. Much safer to go with a reasonably well known manufacturer and use the latest generation of lithium ion cells that keep the weight low. There are many very good reputable choices.

I use Cinegears and have no problems using the battery for almost three years. You probably can’t go wrong as long as you don’t chase the lowest price.

No such thing as a budget V mount.

One thing you can do is get an adapter plate that accepts 2 Sony NPF batteries and has a Dtap output on it. It's not going to have the same runtime as a big Vmount, but it will be more compact and you can find high quality 3rd party NPF batteries on Amazon that *do* work well.

That's just not true. I have a plate/battery combo with a plethora of connections (2 d-tap, 2 usb, 1 12v, 1 7v), a massive amount of power and a charger for $260 US.

I'm done futzing with hacks like NP-whatevers. I've tried that for years. I'm about to throw away way more than $300 worth of random battery crap I've accumulated. I advise anyone starting clean to spend just a little bit more and go with a solution that will power anything and be in your kit far longer than any one camera.

Also, all other thigns being equal, AB-mount is superior to V-mount. The only difference is the locking mechanism, which is more reliable in AB-mount.
