I think the USB is just for firmware updates and recording to an SSD, but I'm not sure. Try it.

No, as Michael said, the USB/C is just to update firmware, and set the camera clock. No video media data transfer capability. You need a SD /CFast card reader to connect to your computer. You can also use the USB/C to record directly to a supported SSD.
Cheers

Most stills cameras allow you to transfer photos and video to computers via USB, so it's not an unreasonable expectation, and few computers come with built-in SD card readers anymore. You have to buy a card reader and tote it around with you.

Less wear and tear on the sd card slot from constant removal and insertion of SD cards. However, you would have more wear and tear on the USB port. Which is preferable? I don't know.

The Pocket 4K is not a still photo camera. Neither is downloading files directly from the camera to a computer a professional work flow. BMD Cameras are designed for professional works flows.

Even back in the video tape days, pros did not use the camera to playback video clips, they used a dedicated separate playback video deck. Using the camera as a card reader/playback device is more of a consumer practice.
Cheers

Not necessarily.
v1.2 of physical layer specifications for SD card standard says minimum 10.000 mating cycles
With 200 shooting days per year and 10 inserting cycles per day that would be 5 years at least.
Realistically you might get 100 days per year and 4 cycles per day, which makes it last for 25 years.

have you ever seen a broken SD card slot?
or how many broken USB you have seen?

transfer over USB > i think that we will never see this
on any cinema camera (no matter which manufacturer) - and that's good

I like your analysis Robert. Very thoughtful, technical and deep. This is truly the age of ANALYTICS.

Every notebook I bought in my life had sd card reader, a card reader for a computer desktop is since 40$ and give you stronger solution to offload files.
To be honest add in out on USB port of camera is not something that I like on every my device.
also for photo camera in the last 20 years I never used usb to download file, I ever removed sd card and offloaded externally.
Especially be cause in past usb of phot camera were often a custom cable that you not have everyday with you :-)
I remember when in the first 2000 I used photo bank, a nice tool for photographer and videographer, a box with an hard disk, various ports for different cards shape that allow you to offload you photos and videos without using a computer. You need only to put in card, turn on, press button copy and wait. And a backup of your card was ready.
And people think was a simple card adapter...

I also used to think all gamer laptops had SD card readers -- but I recently bought 3 gamer laptops 15 inch with good intel i9 and rtx 2060, none of them have SD card readers :(

My macbook 12inch also doesnt have it

unfortunately right Antoine, Apple hate every kind of "phisical In connection" no more usb, no more dvd, no more sd card, no more connection they would see all wireless but... not everywhere you can have a good connection and not all device had wireless connection with reability on transfert

YESS that was a great product. I guess it could be done with an Aurdrino, a 2.5 HD and a small card reader.....,

Hi guys, do you know if it's possible to export footage from a CFast card directly from the camera on the 6K PRO?

Or do I need a CFast card reader?

Cheers!
