Doesn't seem to be a problem that effects Apple computers (just in case someone is worried).
Also, when updating, my camera stayed on 70% for a long while until it suddenly flashed 'update complete'.
I think sticking on 70% for an extended time is normal in this update process.

If I update using Mac OS on my old laptop. Will I still be able to use my desktop PC to access my camera?? I don't have any usb 2.0 ports. They are all 3.0 and now I'm stuck on v5.2...

Makes me curious whether you can update to 6.2 when one's computer is running Linux. Probably it works fine, as with OSX unix underlies the pretty front end.

5. Uninstall v5.2
6. Download v6.2 from our website
7. Install v6.2 onto your computer
8. Ensure camera is not connected via USB.
9. Hold down focus button while powering on camera. It will start up with a black screen.
10. Connect camera to computer via USB. (You will need USB 2.0 - OK confirmed)
11. Run the Blackmagic Camera Setup again

aaaaand

12. Camera NOT recognized by setup.

So now I am stuck with a 5.2 camera with no means to get 6.2

Should I RMA now?

Come Guys. Listen I had this same issue
Could not update to 6.2
I downgrade to 5.2 and could not upgrade to any software
This is using windows and try two laptop no luck
Then I Got it to work after my friend use his Apple laptop problem fix.

There is no need for panic clearly this windows version of 6.2 has a big. Until BMD fix this. I suggest you using Apple product to update it

I can confirm its not a Cable issue 100%.
Used 2 mobile phone USB-c to USB-3 and 2 USB cables coming straight from a drone package (specificaly for downloading footage ASAP) and one coming from an external disk.

Tried on both USB2 and USB3 ports.

Looking forward to a quick fix. Wanted to test out BRAW this sunday but I don't think the programmers will be working overtime because of us Windows peasants on a weekend :D

I have just tried to do the update on Mac, it worked like charm. It stopped at 70% at first but then it completed. It's definitely something that has to do on the windows side of the software because I have used the exact same cable that I was previously using on my pc in a 2.0 usb port. You just have to wait for a fix.

Perhaps Blackmagic could put a note at the header of this thread saying "Do Not Attempt To Download 6.2 for Windows" at this time, or something like that. I'm hopeful that a fix will come soon - otherwise we're all going to need to rent a Mac or maybe use one at Best Buy to update our BMPCC 4ks. For now, nearly everyone on this thread that has a Windows system and tried to do the upgrade is sitting with a 5.2.

Yes I am guessing that that just happens because it preloads the firmware onto the camera which is when it reaches 70%. The camera then reboots and the software realises that the update succeeded and goes to 100% all at once. It's just a guess though...

Okay I lost my patience and borrowed a Mac and then used a usbc to usbc 3.0 and the update finally worked. As others have mentioned it topped off at 70% but seems to be fully installed.

Bought new A to C cables (both 3 and 2.0), tried Windows 10 Home and Pro, Used both USB 2 and 3 Port's. Failed every time. Followed instructions posted switching it to 5.2.... When I boot camera holding focus it didn't register in the computer. I have to turned the camera off, remove power, re-power the camera turns back on.

Tried to go back to 6.1, but it won't work. Read that if it booted complete to restart the process, but you can't reinstall 5.2 when you already have it... So, could we just RMA, then get a camera back that has 6.2 already on it?

The behavior on my 5K iMac was identical for each of the past two updates. 70%, a little patience, and all was well.

Could not update from my Windows 10 machine (and two other older Windows computers). Pulled out my 13 year old mac from the dust bin and it worked perfectly with the same cable that failed on the windows machine.

It might work, I tried with a Win 7 VM but my USB port are not recognized in the software so I gave up lol

I have tried with a Virtual Machine on linux to windows 7 and then 8 and then 10, didn't work. There something inherently wrong about how the recognition of the camera in update mode was handled by the software. I have thought about trying ha**intosh but I could not find a copy to install onto USB because it simply cannot be done as mac doesn't work like windows and linux when it comes to handling hardware drivers. I ended up downloading it for mac and installing it via my friend's macbook pro.

Here's how I resolved this issue when updating firmware on Windows 10. First make sure camera update utility v6.2 is installed. Connect the camera and turn it on. Try to upgrade and wait for "failed" message.
Go to device manager, find "Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K" device which will have yellow exclamation mark on it.
Right-click on it and choose "Update Driver" and then choose "Browse my computer for driver software"
Now choose "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer"
Click "Have Disk" button and navigate to this file via browse option - "C:\Program Files (x86)\Blackmagic Design\Blackmagic Camera Setup\DriverUSB\Cameras\CinemaCamera.inf"

wn13.jpg (76.94 KiB) Viewed 30417 times

Click "Open" then "OK" and you'll be presented with list of devices where you'll choose "Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K" and hit Next
wn14.jpg
wn14.jpg (59.84 KiB) Viewed 30417 times

You'll be presented with a "Update Driver Warning" window here to which you say Yes and complete driver update.
If you followed the steps correctly the yellow exclamation mark should be gone from camera entry in device manager.
Now you can run the firmware update without any issues.
Tested a few times on two machines, worked like a charm.

Apparently if you update the camera to 6.2 even with a mac you won't have to install the drivers on windows, they will be already installed by the camera itself once connected. I guess there must have been a problem with the 6.1 update then...

Never mind, I figured it out. I was repowering the camera and restarting the application after the driver update which was causing the same issue. It worked after not touching camera or closing application and redoing the steps. Thanks Eugenius!

Yep awesome, worked for me too.

I did have the thought of looking from the driver but if only if you use the "have disk" option do you get to the INF file.

Worked a treat.

BMPCC4K Updates

PostWed Mar 13, 2019 7:26 am

Hi, could anybody help with an update issue for the BMPCC4K?

I am trying to install the 6.2 update but when I click on 'update' in the BM Camera Utility window the camera shuts down. Several seconds later the Utility window informs me the update has failed.

Thanks.

Try powering up the camera in update mode by holding the focus button while you are turning it on. At this point the camera should have the red power light on but the screen still off. Connect it to your computer and verify that the update software detects it while in download mode. If it doesn't, then follow Eugene's steps with your camera in download mode instead of powering it up normally and restart your pc before trying again.

It could be that the addresses that the camera sends while in download mode and while normally powered on are different. Installing the same drivers for both modes could solve the problem. If it doesn't see if you can get access to a mac and do it from there, there is little you can do until blackmagic fixes the problem.

Thanks for the tip about the focus button! I was actually able to update the camera by following Eugene's steps and not touching the camera or closing the app.

Just a guess here...Any chance that Windows 10 security will not allow unsigned device drivers to run..unless you boot the computer in a special mode that bypasses this security feature? Google the topic..reboot windows in that special mode then try running the update..see if that works...

Re: Cant update bmpcc 4k to firmware 6.2

Not all heroes wear capes. Hats off to Eugene!

As another data point, I'm on Windows 10. My BMPCC4K was v6.1 and failed to update on the first try. I followed Eugene's steps successfully, but then the app crashed on the 2nd attempted update. I ran the updater again and it worked on 3rd attempt (hung at 70% for a while though). Boom! BRAW!!! :D

Hello,

Thanks for all the informations about this problem. However, even Eugene's steps don't work on my computer (Win10Family, 64 bits)
When I try to locate the driver manually, Windows asks me to locate the folder which contain the driver and even if it's the only file inside, it just can't find it. It doesn't ask me to locate directly the file, like you.

I just keep calm, but I really hate Windows right now.

Any advice ?
(I can put some screenshots, but my computer is in french, it won't help that much)

Thank you !

Ludo

Sounds like you've missed a step in the instructions.

You need to choose "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer" first.

If you try to locate the driver manually via the "Browse..." button right away, you won't be able to see the inf file.

Agree, I had the same issue but only by selecting "Let me pick from...." option do you get the option to "browse" then you can locate the .inf file that way.

Indeed !
I've made a mistake in the translation between english and french version of Windows.
All is ok right now, thanks a lot !
