Note: I really love how the Zeiss ZE lenses look. I'd like to gradually buy them all. The 50mm ZE is the cheapest. The next one I'd probably get is the 18mm. I saw this great BMCC Vimeo test that really sold me on the lenses:

Note: I'm not sure if this is really even an option or if it would be smart to do. But I know a lot of people with MFT glass that I could use on the camera. While at the same time, I could build up my canon mount glass for when I upgrade to either a BMC4K Canon mount or to a Red Scarlet with canon mount. I really don't want to buy any MFT glass because I want to eventually shoot S35. But I like the benefit of being able to use it on the camera if I know someone that has voigtlanders.

Note: Because of the crop factor, a really wide lens will help a lot, and I could just move the camera closer if I need something closer. It has some of the best footage associated with it that I've seen.

Note: I really would like to get the 4k camera but I don't have the monitor $1k+, output device ~$1k, or 24tb of hard drives to adequately support shooting on it and backing everything up with redundancy.

Robert, with $4,000 to spend, realistically, you should start with the BMPCC and you can build up something very useful from there! Later acquire the BMPC4K if that is your goal.

I think I should expand on that comment because it sounds tactless out of context. You likely don't need another tripod and you may not be considering additional lights, but adding a few lenses to cover wide, normal, portrait, telephoto will add up. Adding IRND filters, some rigging, possibly an EVF or monitor, and so on. If you are confident you will eventually get the BMPC4K, a good tripod and head would exceed your current budget but I gather you mean $4,000 to spend now and then add as you can later.

I'd get the bmpcc and some quality glass. That's solely because the pocket suits my shooting style and a spare $3k for gear would go a fair way.

A budget of four grand is good for the Pocket CC with essential accessoiries - whereas "essential" may differ, depending on your intentions. Most people spend significantly more money for lenses, light, audio, rigging etc. than for the camera - and that's ok. You won't have much fun with a CC2k5 when there's only $1k left for the rest...

I'm not sure why you list a 50mm in most of your BMCC set-ups.

The 50mm is a short telephoto lenses on the BMCC. Fine for close-up dialogue shots but of limited use for establishing shots or wider views.

You would be better off with the Zeiss 25mm.

In fact... If you were only getting one lens you would be better off with the 17-55mm 2.8 Canon EF-S.

All of these questions are covered in many other threads. A simple search and a few minutes of reading and you would have a wealth of knowledge.

For 4000$ you can never have a GOOD NEW Starter-Kit. (BMDCC or BMDPC with PRO Lens) forget it!

Only A good lens costs a thousand dollars :0)
Spend more money on lenses, which in the camera (if you don't have much money at the time)
The lenses remain.

I would say 2 BMPPCC, Rokinon lens and a good tripod (Manfrotto for example).

But what you REALLY NEED is a gorgeous story....
