Lut in playback request BMPCC 4K

A small feature fix request...

When shooting burned in lut on playback I have to toggle the “view lut” feature off to see it correctly. Otherwise, in playback the video is super contrasty and saturated. I presume bc the camera applies the lut twice.

I would rather the playback always shows exactly what was captured.

Thanks!

I vote for this too, double lut seems like such a silly feature at moment.

Unless, like me, you never burn in a LUT, in which case the current system is perfect.

I don’t understand. You would still see the LUT if you kept the toggle switched on. And the rest of us wouldn’t see a “double lut” - that’s what I’m asking for. Do you want a lut effect applied twice for some reason?

The LUT isn't applied twice. I record in BM film. I monitor with a rec709 LUT. When I play it back, the rec709 LUT gets applied to the flat image and I see it the same way I did when I was originally monitoring. Nothing's doubled up.

Yes. This issue doesn’t affect your particular usage. Thanks for pointing that out.

Is there a reason not to just use one of the function buttons to toggle the LUT on and off for playback?

It causes less confusion on set. The only reason I use the burn in lut option is on a set that needs quick turnaround on content. Which I’ll admit is rare. But still, I’d rather not go through that moment of anxiety and explaining to producers that the camera has a quirk that I have to toggle on and off each time I’m asked for playback.

I believe it is a simple ask. And one that makes for a more professional experience.

Steven, when you are playing back for producers - are you using the internal screen to show, or an external monitor? Because you can switch the display LUT off for the HDMI out separately.
