Feature Films Shot with Blackmagic Cinema Camera

PostTue Jul 02, 2013 2:34 pm

Just curious to see if any feature films are already shot with Blackmagic Cinema Camera. It would be great if the filmmakers/DOP's can share their experiences specific to shooting feature films with BMCC and to see the list growing. Even if there are films under production/post-production, it would still be good to have a conversation going on this topic :)

You may find some of the answers using the search function... there are a great number of "test" clips, numerous commercials and music videos, and some feature films as well - allthough these tend to still be in post production stages.

Yes, I have seen many interesting clips and shorts. But what I'm really keen is to watch the BMCC footage on a large screen. How these images would look on a large cinema screen? Has anyone checked it on the large screen?

One of the feature films I'm aware of is "Hero Punk" from Kanen Flowers. Here's an article about it: http://filmmakermagazine.com/67880-hero ... en-screen/

Mac is right, most of the big productions with BMCCs aren't really out yet. I think we'll start seeing more soon!

Thanks Christine for that info. Interestingly the director of the film is completely against shooting in RAW. I heard many people talking about the RAW being not viable for a full length feature film. Perhaps the compressed RAW that BM has announced should help.

May be Christine could add the BMCC to this list on wiki:

I was one of the cinematographers for the film. The reason we didn't shoot RAW was storage reasons. We are going back in at the end of this month to shoot some pickups and will be shooting RAW.

To be honest, I picked up the cameras from the rental here in NY the night before I flew out to San Francisco to shoot so we barely had any time to test the cameras. We also felt more comfortable shooting ProRes with the lack of testing, but the storage was the main issue.

If we had to do it again, we would have shot the whole thing in RAW.

We did a small article on "The Eye of Silence" from French director Emmanuel Sapolsky.

A very interesting project shot in China with the bmcc:

I recently worked as a pa on a feature shot with the bmcc. It's currently in post. The movie is called "The Living." I could say much more but I'm not sure what would be okay to say since I was pretty much lowest on the totem pole haha.
