Just a thought guys, I've been reading some of the posts with interest and noticed lots of people saying the same thing, that the 4k production camera is 4k for $4k yes it is for you lucky people who live in the US.
I've just checked the exchange rate from US dollars to UK pounds and us in the UK are paying around $4825 for our cameras.

My camera is costing me £3250 at todays exchange rate thats $4825, I didn't realise the difference was $800 plus, wow that's a lot.

So in reality for us in the UK it's not 4k for $4k it's more like 4k for $5k.

It still looks like a good deal but having to pay so much more for the same item is hard to swallow.....'Greedy UK Government Trolls' taxes are killing us in this country.

While it won't make up all the difference don't forget many US states add sales tax, and in general in the US sales tax is shown later in the process, so the gap between the UK price and US price isn't quite as bad as it may appear, not that it is good.

Usually in New Zealand we over pay for things too. But I was really surprised to see the 4K camera was selling for exactly what US $4000 exchanges to, plus our local tax (which I'd have to pay in customs anyways). But it also includes a free 240 GB SSD drive and an USB 3 / Firewire / eSata SSD Dock. Nice!

For once we get a good deal in New Zealand

Yes exchange rates are different all over the world, is this something you just discovered?

Yeah i know this Jonas bengtson and we always get the long end of the stick in the uk, we pay high taxes and are always last to get anything.
My point was when you add things like tax it's not a 4k camera any more is it.

I think you've got this wrong. The US quoted price is without tax because each state has a different tax system and so add on their own rate.

Currently BMC4K in the UK is going for £2675+VAT. If you are buying through a VAT registered company then you can claim back the VAT.
Sterling to US exchange is currently 1.49.

So in fact the UK price is $3985.75 so we are getting the cameras less than $4k. So for once we beat the US price, until the exchange rate goes up at least.

Don't overplay the State Sales Tax thing. Most everybody gets around that with an online purchase from out of State or with a State Sales Tax exemption for professional videographers and filmmakers. When you see $3,999.99 as the price, that's usually exactly what folks in the US pay.

You can start up a UK Limited company for £60 and register for VAT. Then you claim back the VAT by submitting quarterly VAT returns (can do online) to the Inland Revenue.
I can't remember if there is a minimum you have to earn to quality and how enforceable that is.

When you look at the price for other 4K-capable cameras out there, ~$4500 price tag for a working BMPC doesn't sound too bad at all.

My ten cents: I'm glad to live in europe, and i'm more than willing to pay the price. The Production cam is around 3600€ (including german taxes), so in europe you get 4k for considerably less than 4k...

Price in Italy: 2897€ (3700usd) + taxes, but at the end of the year you get taxes returned if you have a company.

Haha, UK get things late? And for a high price? You guys should consider yourself lucky! I'm from Sweden, and our price is 35000 SEK (which is approximately 5231$) and that is just for the house. Also, we probably won't get any cameras here until like a year after the actual release!

It's cheaper than that online.

VAT registration is required for companies over a certain turnover.

Yeah, streetprices are usually lower. Plus you often get coupons or discount codes.
