Any features shot on Braw? (Please add to the list).

Talks about Braw are happening again. I thought it might be useful to watch features shot largely in Braw in a cinema, to get an impression of how it all comes across.

I don't think there is any current ones to watch, but when anybody has a name and link, please add it here?

People are welcome to talk about it.

I know there is one that I recently put a bid in for editing on it. My rate was higher than the Producer/Director was willing to pay so he passed, but I know he shot a feature in 4K BRAW. We'll likely start seeing features shot in BRAW soon. Remember the format has only been available for a year.

In Australia the average length of time from starting the first draft of a script to having it screening in a cinema is about 6 years.

Not many people choose BMD cameras as the primary camera for narrative drama work, which is what would have to happen if someone was going to choose to shoot BRAW for a feature film AND THEN get it into a cinema (also known as being sold) that we could then all see and pontificate about.

Many many films get made. Some of them in the near future may be shot with BRAW. Almost none of them will ever get into a cinema.

I suspect a P6K or P4K will be the first BRAW footage in a cinema we'll see, likely not as a principal but as a supplemental camera.

Yes. I thought it might be a bit thin on the ground and low budget. In here we are more likely to get cinema towards the IS bog budget. But as we see, people are working on them, and when we know we can jerp an eye out. The real problem is not really 6 years out, its Arri.

If all goes well in terms of funding as planned, I may have shot a feature in BRAW, ready in 2021 or 2022. I’m not the producer. Whether it ever gets to distribution in a theatre isn’t likely and isn’t anything I can predict. Released for television is more realistic.

Yes that's what I was getting at.

Getting a theatrical release is very difficult.

Sundance has long been a very popular indie film market where indies films, if they're good enough, get selected to screen and from there they are often bought on the open market by either distributors or, increasingly, the streamers.

And yet it's not all wine and roses.

Wayne, why dont YOU show us some of the things you shoot insteado of asking others to prove the point?
You are always whining about technology and wanting more. Forever not satisfied with whats out there but forever here in the forums whining for more.
Show us something from you for a change.

I was in the preliminary stage of doing a BRAW documentary about a well known person here on the Island. It wouldn’t be a traditional biopic about events but more a reflection on history and philosophy from living a good life (which is the opposite of what most of think we want: “living the good life”). There was a great story to tell there.

Sadly the elderly central character passed away days ago. I think that work would have had quite a distinctive approach and would have made it to broadcast. Now I’m looking around for a new vehicle. Heroes are rare.

Sad Rick, sorry to hear you project did not work out. Life is unexpectedly risky after 80 years, and the future uncertain.
Cheers

To bad man. But maybe flip it around. Go for the story, hero or not.

I'll be shooting a feature on the new year in RAW.
Using a BMCC 2.5k and a BMPC 4k

Oyvind, thanks for the advice.

I’ve thought of carrying on without the charismatic character, but I think the family will be grieving and so I’ll wait awhile.

Sometimes though, it’s the singer, not the song, that carries the story, and I need to think of how to restructure the song without that singer to tell that story.

Guys, don't sweat it. When you are done production, and have release dates and title, post then.

Even though cinema is a more ideal place to look at Braw, let's open it up to TV related formats too.

We have a number of music documentaries and sometimes concerts, turning up here in cinemas. Those might be more likely to have titles using Braw. But, that's here. In the states you are more likely to get other doco's in some cinema somewhere.

True Rick, hope you get what you are after. It’s a complex dance and sometimes hard to find the rhythm. And now when you finally thought you had it, there’s another dance.

Thank you gentlemen. Out of respect for Wayne’s topic, I’ll stick to the suggestion we only post features with a release date (or ready for release) rather than under development.

Thanks Rick. It's just important to have a name and a date time frame to look out for it, otherwise we say alot of things without people knowing the name to look out for, and forget by the time it comes out.
