Looks like an old 8mm film camera.

Yeah, it's too boxy to be the Digital Bolex. Are you asking about the pistol grip?

That's a vintage Braun Nizo Spezial Super 8mm film camera. The hand grip is part of the camera and houses the batteries.

Really - Blackmagic's own handles, or a FigRig would be a far better match. The BMCC/BM4K are simply not one-handed cameras.

Even the legendary Ahnold himself would be hard-pressed to manage decent shots that lasted any length of time at all. Call me a 97-pound weakling, but even with both hands on the Blackmagic handles it's quite a challenge.

The pistol grip is actually not a bad form factor for those old 8mm cameras. When the viewfinder is right on the back of the camera you can tuck the whole thing up against your body with your elbow somewhat resting against your hip.

With an LCD screen on the BMPCC (or any other DSLR type form factor), you'd be stuck holding the camera in a stress position 6-12 inches away from your face. Also, I'll bet most of us will have a somewhat heavy lens which will make the camera even more front-heavy.

It might be a nice design if you have a loupe on the LCD and a small pancake lens, so you can get the camera close to your eye and get your elbow tucked up against your body.
