update firmware of speed editor in DR 18 6 3 9

PostWed Nov 15, 2023 7:39 pm

Hello
After a long time, I decided to use Speed Editor again. At starup DR18 asked me for updating Speed Editor.
So 2 questions:
- Where can I find the current version?
- How do I proceed to perform this update?

Thank you

With the Speed Editor connected by cable,(this is a must) click on the Help dropdown menu and click on DaVinci Control Panels Setup. It will either tell you that you need to update, or clicking on the icon just above the battery indicator will take you to the update. The current firmware version is 1.4.4.

Hi
I confirm that Speed Editor being connected via USB, the section Help -> Davinci Control Panel remains empty on my 2 PC's desk and laptop
However I get the message "Speed Editor Update available" at connecting

DaVinci Control Panels Setup is the correct place to do the update. If you click on the icon do you get the second screen? As mine is up to date it shows the current firmware version.

That should only appear if you click on "Welcome to DaVinci Resolve" in the Help menu. It's possible you have an installation problem. It might be worth uninstalling Resolve in Control Panel/Programs and Features and reinstalling.

Just a thought, do you have DaVinci Resolve Control Panels installed? It's a selectable option when installing.

There's your problem. I would suggest you do a reinstall of Resolve as I suggested above and include that option.

Then I am at a loss. The only other thing I can think of is the state of charge of the internal battery. If you haven't used the SE for a long time the battery is probably flat and will need some time to charge from the USB connection.

Seems to me like if DR Studio 18 App had never ever installed the "Davinci Control Panels setup App" on my machines. That s why impossible to update.
The solution now is to find and install this App.
Who can help and tell me where I can find this App?
Thank you. Thank you :D :D

Open Windows Settings - Apps & features, and see if you have DaVinci Resolve Control Panels in the list. If you do, uninstall it, and then run the Resolve 18.6.3 installer again. It should have the option to install the control panels app.

Impossible to go further ahead
Installed/reinstalled several times
Swithed cables USB-C
With/without bluetooth
Davinci Resolve Studio 18.6.3.9 -> Help -> Davinci Control Panel remains empty
On Speed Editor, sometimes keys do not respond

About burning my machine and suicide! :( :(

That being the case, if you run the Resolve 18.6.3 installer again, I would expect you to see this:

And you would select Install and it would install the control panels app. Do you not see this when you run the installer?

Ah OK. Can you generate a Resolve log from the Resolve Help menu, post that on a file sharing site and post a link here? A Windows System Information .NFO file would also be helpful.

Also, when you reran the Resolve installer, did you get the screen shot I showed above, and then when you selected the DaVinci Control Panels, and Install, that's when you got the error message?

Hello

During the install process, I get several msgs, according to which MS app is installed. I clic "continue" . That doesnt alter the final result.
On the other hand, in the same install process, when selecting all the Black Magic apps, all goes right except msg "could not install control panel, continue?"
When full process is over, I can call up DRS18, msg that needs Speed Editor update apppears, I clic "Continue" and DRS18 + Speed Editor are operational.
Except that I dont know the version since it doesnt appears in Help menu of DRS18
Hope you will understand my franco french language!
See zip file
thank you

Open Windows File Explorer Options, and on the View tab, enable "Show hidden files, folders and drives".

Also unselect "Hide extensions for known file types".

Then in File Explorer, navigate to this folder:

C:\Users\gring\AppData\Local\Temp\

Looks like both the control panels app and the various Visual C++ components that failed to install may not have permission to write to the folder it's trying to install in.

Which prompts the question: Are you logged in as an Admin user on Windows? If you are logged in as a user without Admin permission, I think it would cause the issues I see in the install log.

Solution would be to login as a user with Admin privilege's and run the Resolve installer from there.

I understand but What do you mean by "login as a user with Admin privilege's"?

Open Windows Settings - Accounts > Your info and see if Administrator is shown, as in the screen shot below. If not, log into an account that has Administrator privilege's.

Well, that's unfortunate. If you are an Administrator user, then I don't know why the Resolve installer is failing.

You have MSI install errors 1603 and 1625.

Here is a link explaining what can cause the 1603 errors:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troub ... error-1603

Here is a link explaining what can cause the 1625 errors:

https://help.pdq.com/hc/en-us/articles/ ... -Code-1625

The 1625 error looks likely to be caused by a Windows Policy setting. Is your computer connected to a corporate network and/or a Windows Domain Server? If so, they may be implementing a security policy that's preventing the install of the apps.

No network, no domain
I'll read more deeply the 2 articles

I haven't read this thread carefully (full disclosure) but do you have any anti-virus software running that could be interfering with the installer?
