Full Screen mode not hiding Windows taskbar

PostWed Jul 26, 2023 9:09 pm

Hi all!

Just updated to the latest version of Resolve, and noticed that while in full screen preview (or cinema viewer as I just learned), the Windows taskbar does not go away. The full screen window is not squeezing to fit above the taskbar, but is hidden behind it. I'd rather not have to enable auto-hide taskbar in Windows because I prefer having it present except when I'm in full screen.

Terms like "latest", "newest", etc. don't really mean much. Especially to readers down the road. You should always be specific about versions.

I can't duplicate the issue in Studio 18.5 on Windows 10. Hitting Ctrl+F to enter Cinema Viewer is working perfectly.

I only have one monitor. You as well?

I’ve a feeling this is a glitchy thing with windows 10; depending on possibly several factors? It occurs fairly often on my setup, and I’ve never gotten to the bottom of it. But it’s no biggie: Control, Alt, Delete >Task Manager >Processes. Look for Windows Explorer in the lefthand pane (can appear anywhere in the list!). Right click on it and select restart from the drop-down menu. If you ever find a permeant cure, please let me know.

In the Workspace dropdown menu make sure that Full Screen Window is not checked. With the Task Bar not hidden this is what you should see. You may need to restart Resolve for this to take effect

When using the full screen Cinema viewer it will open full screen and cover the top Windows bar and the Task Bar. This works for both single and dual screen modes.

Jim, noted. Also on Studio 18.5. And yes, just one monitor.

Geoff, unfortunately, even your method didn't work for me. Restarting Windows Explorer doesn't make the taskbar go away, even temporarily.

Charles, that's what I'm having a problem with. Using Cinema viewer opens full screen but it does not cover the Task Bar. Regardless of whether or not Full Screen Window is checked. This is what I'm talking about:

Even with the Task Bar locked, Cinema viewer still opens full screen over the top of it. So, all I can say John, is I don't know why it works for me and not you.

Jim, the taskbar is not locked.

Charles, little gremlins like these really are a pain, aren't they?

Same issue here with DaVinci Resolve 18.5 on Windows 10.
Restarting Windows Explorer doesn't work for me either.

Didn't have this issue in 18.5 but updated to 18.6.3 a couple of days ago and now I do as well. The suggestions here didn't fix it for me either.

In the taskbar settings you can set it to autohide which gives me the full screen view back, but I prefer to have my taskbar stick around when not in full screen mode.

It still works for me in 18.6.3 as it did when I last posted in July.

I've had this issue every version on both Windows 10 and 11 and it drives me bonkers. Either leave it up and lose 5% of your screen or auto hide and lose all of your DR navigation buttons every time it pops up because you were within 3 pixels instead of the allowed 4 pixels. It's too bad Microsoft never put a dedicated key on literally every keyboard ever made that would, I don't know, pop up the start....Window. If only.

You can always move the Task bar so that it is at the top of the screen or either side, and still have it auto hide. When hidden you get a thin white line at the edge of the screen to show you where it is.
