Davinci Resolve stretching mkv videos?

PostTue Nov 28, 2023 9:06 pm

hey could anyone tell me why davinci is stretching my mkv video clip thats 16m to 11h20m?
i noticed this happening when playing back the video on the editor. it looked like everything was super slow, and then i exported w the youtube default export settings and yeah it really was that slow. davinci basically elongated the clip with the times i said above.
(I also put in a mp4 vid to compare the speed and the mp4 video seems to playback fine in the same project as the mkv video)
Any ideas guys?

What does mediainfo say the framerate of the mkv is? Perhaps it has the wrong metadata. In Resolve, try right-clicking on the clip in the Media page and changing the clip settings to expected framerate and re-add it to the timeline.

Hey thanks!,

How do I adjust the framerate with RMB?
These are the only options I see https://ibb.co/Wy71Fn4

It has to be in your media pool, so import it in your project, then right click - clip attributes - video - video framerate.

Hey thanks all, i tried this, changed it to 60, but still same issue, after importing it i noticed the video playback said it was still 24, so i made a new timeline w 60fps as well.
put the clip in that but still even w 60fps reading it still does that lag stretch

Hey all any ideas?
As additional info recorded vids are 1900 x 1040p 60 fps mkv
recorded from OBS with those settings.

Its nothing to crazy but yeah resolve wont handle it well.
When i RMB>properties the mkv video files they dont show a FPS indicator or frame dimensions or anything really its all empty except for the length of the video...maybe thats also whats causing an issue?

What codec?
Also, 1900x1040?!? What happened to the rest of the pixels in standard 1920x1080?

Well, since it's a OBS recording, the chances that your recordings are in VFR are very high , and resolve don't like variable framerates, and also VFR are not good for post production..

Not the best solution, but try to transcode your recordings to constant framerate, another transcode is always something to lose in quality but it may solve your problem.

For future projects, I get very reliable results when using a hardware recorder for screen capture. Something like this:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Just happened to edit a video today recorded as 60fps MKV on OBS.

In Resolve the video was sped up, tried to re-import it in different ways, but it was playing at least 1/3 or more too fast.

I remuxed the same clip in OBS to mp4, imported the file to the same project and it played the correct speed.

Both clips have the same mediainfo, I.e. 60FPS.

Current Resolve as of today.

Hey thanks so much, so essentailly need to remux in OBS for this to work?
Do you know if OBS is capable of remuxing mult mkvs at the same time? (I had the remux turned off so all the clips are piled up)

It worked on mine. I have no idea why though. Just choose file->remux recordings. Takes few seconds per clip.

Mkv is a very problematic container, don’t use it for editing.
There are many tool to remux to mp4 or mov.
Ffmpeg allow you easily, under win I use it with a batch command, under Mac I had a interface tool to do that

Handbrake is good one, or as Carlo said, Ffmpeg...there are a lot of them.

Hey noerde this works!
In resolve it playsback correctly now!
i think has to do w the detail section when RMB the video file now shows all th proper details like FPS is 60 and whatnot

but only issue is the remux changes the videos contrast and color.
Is there a way to keep the orig files visuals?

mmm reWrap should only change container, not content and metadata. seems that what you do in somehow recompress it.
if you are under mac there is a "mp4 tools", free for single file, life time pay (12$ if i remember correctly)
to have batch and other confort to rewrap data in a different container.
any way forget to use mkv to record or anyway :-P
it's main source of problem.
