Convert channel to mask/matte?

PostFri Feb 23, 2024 10:27 pm

Q: How do I use an alpha channel as a mask?

Or any other color channel, for that matter. This is something that is very straightforward to do in other programs, like Blender, where each color channel, when viewed on its own, will appear as a black and white image, and can be connected to any image input, including mask inputs. In this way, I can take the alpha channel of one node and use it as the mask on another node. Can Fusion not do this? I'm new to Fusion and how masks / mattes and color channels work in Fusion, seems totally counter-intuitive to me. How do these things work?

You can connect the output of a node to the mask of another node.
For example the output of a PNG image connected to the mask of a background node.

In the settings tab of the background node (or any other node with a mask) there are bunch of parameters related to the mask
