Synchronise audio tracks only (without video track)

PostSun May 12, 2024 10:40 am

Hello,

I would like to
  • synchronise 10 audio tracks with embedded timecode.
  • These tracks were recorded with Tentacle TrackEs.
  • There is no video track, so the usual way with "Auto Sync Audio // Based on Timecode" does not work.
I have tried to create a dummy video track (Generators/Solid Colour/Compound Clip) but no timecode can be set for generated video tracks.

How can I synchronise audio tracks in Resolve TC without a corresponding video track?

Thanks!

Presently you need to use Tentacle's software to sync the audio files - I believe it creates an XML file that can be imported into Resolve. Something along those lines.

The XML generated by Tentacle Studio does not work with resolve.

Really? Well doesn't that suck. Are you certain of this? Does Tentacle Studio offer other export options such as AAF? I'm asking because I've read others mentioning using Tentacle Studio to get around the limitations of Resolve with audio-only clips with embedded audio timecode on one of their tracks.

Neither XML nor AAF will work with Resolve. For the usual video/audio workflow, Tentacle suggests exporting new media with embedded TC instead. But in my case, I already have embedded TC in my WAV files.

I just want to place them in my Resolve timeline at the right TC position: Each Track E device should get an audio track on which all takes of the TrackE are placed.

You can add clips to a timeline in the correct timecode position. If you start your timeline timecode right before the earliest timecode of the clips, this may work for you.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Use the contextual menu in the Media Pool to add based on timecode. Setup the timeline to the appropriate timecode start first.

Hello, Martin

I can recommend to use "Multicam clip"

1. In the metadata menu in the field Camera # put different names for each track
2. Select all files and choose "Create new Multicam Clip using Selected Clips"
3. In the "New Multicam Clip" window put the name of the new Multicam Clip, Frame rate, Angle Sync = Timecode, Angle Name = Metadata - Camera, and make sure you have "Detect clips from same camera" checkbox active, Detect using = Metadata - Camera #, and I recommend not to Move Source Clips to Original Clips Bin

This process will create a new Multicam sequence where all the tracks will be synced using Timecode

Hope it will help

Sincerely, Vitalii

This - absolutely - I use this all the time.

Apologies to the OP - I assumed you meant that your audio had audio timecode.
