round trip free -> studio -> free ?

PostThu May 16, 2024 10:04 am

My secondary system which I plan to take with me on holidays runs the DR 18.6 free version.
I can do most of my field (draft) editing with that, but the lens correction filter restriction is annoying when working with GoPro shots. Hence I am thinking about temporarily upgrade to Studio on that system (scared with the Intel integrated GPU though): I know how to transfer my license from my main system to this one, but what caveats when (moving the license back and) downgrading to the free version afterwards ? Other thoughts ?
DR Studio 18.6.6 Win10Pro 22H2 19045.4291 i7-8850H 2.6GHz - 32GB RAM;
nVidia Quadro P2000 4 GB (546.59)
OS,Library,Project: 1TB SSD - Cache & src media files: 500GB NVMe
ATEM TVS (8.6.4), VA 4k (2.5.4)
Mini Monitor & Mini Recorder (Deskt Vid 12.0)

A short answer to free > Studio > free: no issues.Use a shared project library (or DRPs), set up path mapping, and only the studio features (and codecs) will be different. Note: import the project and check. The free version will not open projects with studio features that are integral to operation (4k, > 60 fps etc).

An answer worth considering: activation keys can be used on two simultaneous systems. You can install Studio on both, and add your activation key to see how many activations you have left. Further, you can deactivate a license from an existing system and add it to a new system with Resolve Studio. See the studio and licensing FAQs.
