May have found a solution. It works (sporadically) if you first go into fusion, select the textNode you want to edit, then, right click in the "mediaout1" window and select "Allow typing in preview" for that specific text node.

Then enter the text you want to have special styling for. I found sometimes it worked if I added it directly in the text box, and sometimes it worked when I added it in the mediaout screen, but it wasn't consistent and if it didn't work for one, I'd have to redo the steps until it worked.
Then select the text you want to edit in the text box as per the post above (don't select it in the mediaout box regardless of how you entered it as I found this never worked), and then the rest should work as normal.
Definitely seems to be a bug. Hope the above helps someone.
The only thing I couldn't find an easy way to do was to top align (superscript) the registered trademark. I would have expected there to be a nice easy way but superscript doesn't seem to be an option, so you have to mess with XYZ aspects. If anyone knows of a simpler way (I'm sure there must be one!) please share
