nop. you can have one key active on two machines at the same time. as soon as you put your key on a third machine the first two get thrown out and you have the third one active + one that you can put on another machine again.

All the advices may work but sometimes they don't. You better go to Help > Deactivate License before you sell the machine. Then you can re-enter the license on your new computer without any hassle.

And no - you may use the activation key on two computers at the same time but once you use it on a third installation, the oldest activation gets removed. This does not work sometimes due to problems with BM's database. I had it twice that BM had to reset my activations. So you better deactivate your license properly before using the activation key again.

Have fun and stay healthy,
Dieter

I recommend deactivating via the help menu.

The license key aways has two seats and they auto kill if you try to add a third.
This is designed so if you have failed computer (etc) you don't loose your license but the automatic reset process also has a frequency trigger to prevent piracy so I recommend using the help menu.

Dear Blackmagic fans,

First of al, I like to say I'm every happy to be able to join this forum. And hope to learn a lot of things form this forum.

Yesterday I have bought with a lot of joy the studio version of the davinci resolve. And I must say that I'm blew away by the upgrade. But I had a question.

Every year I do a clean install of Windows 10 pro, to keep my PC work at his max.
Now I was wondering, is it possible to Deactivate my license before I do a clean install of Windows and then re active it after the clean install every year? I use only 1 PC

On Linux, it is
Code: Select all
resolve -deactivate

I assume a command line invocation on any other OS may accomplish the same.

Code: Select all
$ /opt/resolve/bin/resolve -deactivate
ActCCMessage Already in Table: Code= c005, Mode= 13, Level=  1, CmdKey= -1, Option= 0
ActCCMessage Already in Table: Code= c006, Mode= 13, Level=  1, CmdKey= -1, Option= 0
ActCCMessage Already in Table: Code= c007, Mode= 13, Level=  1, CmdKey= -1, Option= 0
ActCCMessage Already in Table: Code= 2282, Mode=  0, Level=  0, CmdKey= 8, Option= 0
PnlMsgActionStringAdapter Already in Table: Code= 615e, Mode=  0, Level=  0, CmdKey= -1, Option= 0
log4cxx: No appender could be found for logger (LeManager).
log4cxx: Please initialize the log4cxx system properly.
License deactivated successfully.

Thanks, Dieter! You are as competent as BM's Peter Chamberlain who answered a bit later.

Is there a way to deactivate a license from the config menu? That seems to be the only one I can get to because it's complaining about my GPU. I tried the command line version from above and sadly, this is what I get on PoP OS 22.04 ...

Code: Select all
$ /opt/resolve/bin/resolve -deactivate
ActCCMessage Already in Table: Code= c005, Mode= 13, Level=  1, CmdKey= -1, Option= 0
ActCCMessage Already in Table: Code= c006, Mode= 13, Level=  1, CmdKey= -1, Option= 0
ActCCMessage Already in Table: Code= c007, Mode= 13, Level=  1, CmdKey= -1, Option= 0
ActCCMessage Already in Table: Code= 2282, Mode=  0, Level=  0, CmdKey= 8, Option= 0
