stop rescanning plugins upon startup... only when I want

PostThu Jan 20, 2022 6:15 pm

How can i prevent loading resolve taking ages because of it rescanning plugins I don't want it to scan? I already unselected unnecessary plugins.. with ableton live it just scans for plugins it didn't find since last startup... and you can always rescan when needed... now it just wastes time everytime i want to edit.

If I close that scan window that pops up it carries on in the background while DR loads for me?

This may not be the best approach, but if you move them out of the directory where they reside then Resolve would not scan them, right? Then when you need them you put them back in.

I'm on a year old, high end (full maxed) MacBook Pro, the last iteration before M1. This is my multi-media machine and it's primarily for audio, but I do some video too. I don't recall this happening before I'm on 17.4.5 BUILD 7 and Resolve Studio is scanning my audio plugins for every launch. I have several thousand plugins (including the entire collections from major vendors). This is adding 20+ minutes to every launch. Is there no way to stop this? Logic Pro only scans NEW plugins, or recently updated. Why is Davinci needing to scan every single time?

I might have to switch back to Premiere, this is unacceptable. That would suck because I paid for the Studio upgrade.

If anybody knows how to stop this, please advise? From what I'm reading online, this is what Black Magic intends my experience to be?

How does it know if all plug-ins remain available without scanning everything? (What if some were deleted between sessions?)
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

It should notice when starting any used plugins after booting the program - 90% of the sessions i don't use external plugins.
are you going to resolve this soon, black magic?

And what about unused plug-ins? They remain "available" even though they no longer are?

In case anyone ever looks at this page again (like I did...) - there doesn't appear to be any built-in way to handle this, but what now works well for me is:

* Make a new folder somewhere to contain audio plugins that you want to use in Resolve

* Move **copies** of your desired VSTs (if any) to this folder

* Start Resolve, go to "DaVinci Resolve > Preferences > Audio Plugins" and get rid of any folders in the "VST Effects" section

* Add the path to your new folder in the VST Effect section

Now only the VSTs in the "new" folder will ever get scanned. Note that you'll likely have to update the copies manually if you install updates to VSTs and you want the update reflected in what Resolve is using.

This still needs to be fixed. I am Resolve 19 Beta 3 and it still does this.
