Studio 19 cannot validate license key please try again later

PostFri Sep 06, 2024 2:09 pm

I was running Ubuntu 22.04 and upgrade to Studio 19, but it complained about CUDA, even though I was able to install the latest NVidia drivers and cuda (12.6).

So, I upgraded to Ubuntu 24.04 only to find that it's impossible to install Resolve.

I forgot to deactivate Resolve on it, and did a clean install of 22.04.

Resolve installed fine, but it keeps giving me this error when I try to activate it:
cannot validate license key please try again later

So, I've been waiting and trying for a couple of days. I've tried changing networks. I even tried deactivating the license on my backup laptop (said 1 license left) then tried again in my main box and still nothing. I was able to reactivate on the backup laptop, no problem.

I tried reinstalling Resolve. Nothing. Tried reinstalling as root. Nothing.

What else can I do?

I think it is a problem with version 19.0.1
Try to install version 19 first, activate it with the License and then you can install 19.0.1

Had the same issue with the AUR package of 19.03 in the package manager. Remove it and installing Studio 19 from the official package did get rid of it for me.

I'm having the same problem. Could you give some more details on what installing Studio 19 from the official package means? Do you mean installing using the DaVinci_Resolve_Studio_19.0_Linux.run file downloaded from the official website, because that didn't work for me...

Edit: This worked for me:
Code: Select all
sudo chmod -R 7777 /opt/resolve/.license/

That is the solution that deserves the 'Solved' flag! In addition, I would like to mention that if you know what you're doing on your workstation, you might want to change your permissions to a little less 'open profile' though disallowing deletion is a good step. Try to write permissions to the user or group that will eventually make use of the Ubuntu Studio you install. ;-)

MANY THANKS! (once again) SOLVED! :ugeek:
I'd love to set my face as an Avatar but I need a little more space ;-)

I had the same issue and this didn´t work for me. /opt/resolve did not contain a .license file (yes I know it's an hidden file, still didn´t show up) and trying to run the chmod obviously did not work as the file did not exist. I even tried to create a blank file with the same name, but that didn't work either.

What did work for me, was to simply go into /opt/resolve/bin and run resolve from cmd (./resolve).
After that the activation worked as expected. I am unsure how to permissions differed when running it manually via cmdl vs running it from dmenu like every other software, but that fixed it for me.

For those as Marc that don't have the /opt/resolve/.license/ folder the best way to proceed is to create the folder itself and them give it the right permissions. That will "Resolve" (pun intended) the problem.. :D

For those that have found no success in any of these, try this out:

(Do what the user on some comment was saying, but run the command as sudo):
sudo /opt/resolve/bin/resolve

For me, this solved the problem.
