It never behaved that way in the past. I was able to use Resolve many many many times in different locations prior to upgrading my macOS then having to upgraded from 18.6.6 to 19.0.2. Why all of a sudden?

I received Resolve Studio back in Resolve 15 back in 2019 from a SD card after purchasing a camera. I never had a problem with Resolve since I started so you could see how this is odd.

Ellory’s deduction makes sense but may be a new requirement that doesn’t seem appropriate for a laptop that is assumed will be used in a variety of locations. Good if BMD can comment on the Resolve registration and license validation requirements.

I wished that BMD would allow us to upgrade our software license keys to a key fab. This issue of registration has been a problem and I have encountered it too, hence how I kind of deduced that it’s checking based on a combination of things, not just the key. I have a few Studio software keys and an old fab key. I never had a problem with my key fab. If only BMD would let us upgrade software keys to fab for some reasonable fee, like say $25 or even $50, I would do that.

I totally hear what you are saying. Makes sense.

What doesn't makes sense is having to be tethered to my home wifi to work on a project when I never ever had this issue with that last macOS let alone the years I've used Resolve. Why now? Seems kinda buggy to me.

Today, our boss asked me if I had updated our Macs to OS15 Sequoia. Our machines don't change location (ever) and so I want to know: will this registration issue bite us in the butt? That is, are we ok to update our OS without needing to re-register Resolve more than once?

The 19.0.3 Resolve update didn't say anything about the issue mentioned in this thread.

Standing by for your answers...

If changing location is a problem can't you turn off WiFi at least until it's open?

Once I updated to the new 19.0.3 everything works as before. It definitely was a weird bug and now I'm able to open my Resolve from any location.

We'll wait until January, when Avid and Pro Tools and similar software all works without a hitch under Sequoia. I'm fine with being six months late on an OS upgrade.

I've logged in at various locations on different networks and everything is stable! Only took a few weeks but finally got it!

I totally share this thinking. I usually wait a good six months on an OS upgrade and a few revisions of a major Resolve release before upgrading.

I can also confirm that under Sequoia, there are now no "endless-re-registering-Resolve" shenanigans.

I had a boss long ago that drilled into us that updating systems or 'wares simply because an update was issued is very foolish and could likely bite you in the butt. He called it "living on the bleeding edge."
