controlling strokes in paint node using modifier tab

Hi, I'm trying to use a paint node to write on the screen, using the "stroke" tool. It draws fine, but if I want to animate (to just write onscreen, as if I am messily writing text), it just won't behave. Each stroke comes up as a different stroke in the modifier tab. I want to create a single stroke and then use the "write on" feature to animate. I don't want a bunch of different strokes, "stroke 1" to "stroke 4" which are a nuisance to deal with.

As an alternative, you could use any paint program to make a black screen, then paint on it with a white brush. Screen record yourself and then you can use the black and white video as the alpha to any color you'd like. Otherwise, if you have Adobe Illustrator you could use the tools there to draw out your curves and then import the SVGs.

I've done tons of text reveal effects over the years by hand crafting each letter and animating each stroke. If you can get a screen recording to work, it's so much less hassle. A wacom/tablet can make short work of it. Especially if you tape a piece of paper to the tablet that has the words for you to trace over.

After thinking it over, you could even just use a Paint node in Fusion and screen record yourself using the paint node.

If you want all modifiers to be a group, you can select them on the screen and press group button.

These are incredible replies - thanks to everyone! I was about going mad, and you have given me a lot to go on. I'll try it all and get back here, but this probably solves it.

I wonder if someone made a macro for handwriting effect in resolve. I haven't seen one myself, but its a pretty popular effect. Maybe there is one out there.

The closest I've seen to a plugin is a Font set that is pre-animated. Each letter Cap and lower has been animated and you can type what you want.

Scribe and auto-fill. I guess they could be made into macro of some kind but one would have to be clever about how to approach it so the effect works and its simple to use and flexible enough for different people's needs.

I've seen macros for logo reveal that looks similar to auto-fill. Probably done with fast noise and some other tweaks. But I think to match the complexity of auto-fill probably some kind of fuse or DCTL would be better, which is beyond my skills. I have seen crazy DCTL stuff people do, with whole animations in 3D that look like super mario games lol

Scribe is something that could probably be done with masking and transforms, but curious how to solve multiple custom fonts problem.

I'm trying to find the youtube channel of this guy from China I think, they have Chinese big fusion forum community there, and the guy makes some crazy cool transitions for fusion as macros. He even made fast noise in many different patterns that he sells. If I find his stuff, I'll post it here for reference.

The hardest part of making stuff for Fusion is trying to create dictionaries in Lua. Everything is a nested dictionary so it becomes obscure really quickly. I never got the hang of traversing the levels to be able to pick out and insert info without a lot of guess work.

You could make a string interface that you enter your text into , then use some RegEx to parse the string info and replace the text with the animated spline filled sPoly objects. It'd be a big group of nodes but you could keep it clean. All the sizing and color options seem pretty straight forward.

I think its a he, based on avatar. But who knows. Anyway, last week I think they released some new transition macros, that look pretty well made. Someone who is into that kind of thing, would probably have a good idea how to make it into a macro,
