As an alternative, you could use any paint program to make a black screen, then paint on it with a white brush. Screen record yourself and then you can use the black and white video as the alpha to any color you'd like. Otherwise, if you have Adobe Illustrator you could use the tools there to draw out your curves and then import the SVGs.
I've done tons of text reveal effects over the years by hand crafting each letter and animating each stroke. If you can get a screen recording to work, it's so much less hassle. A wacom/tablet can make short work of it. Especially if you tape a piece of paper to the tablet that has the words for you to trace over.
After thinking it over, you could even just use a Paint node in Fusion and screen record yourself using the paint node.
