Constant Crashing

PostSun Nov 10, 2024 1:00 am

Hello,

My Studio Resolve has been crashing nonstop. I've done a clean install of new gpu drivers, chipset drivers, and a bios update.
Clean install of davinci resolve and deleting all old files. I do the slightest thing in resolve it will crash whether its changing from one page to another or even just being in it. The only thing that crashes is the software not my pc.

My pc specs are
5900x cpu
7900 xtx gpu
64gb 3600mhz ram
x570 mobo
1tb nvme
500gb ssd
1300w psu

Give the FAQ a good read. It goes over some troubleshooting steps, as well as what information to post if those fail.

I have the same issue. Resolve has been crashing more often than ever before. In my case the the BSOD and my entire system reboots. Prior to failure I have seen some random clips in the timeline turn to black, not media offline, and then after that in a matter of minutes, Resolve becomes unresponsive, or I get the BSOD, which have been relatively rare in recent years. I have diagnosed my hardware and drivers, which seem to be in order.

Check windows Event Manager and look on Windows Logs > System and search for the red flagged event that caused the crash, see what's the description of the BSOD event.

I just want to add that DVR seems to much less stable for me as well in recent releases. I've posted previously about a project crashing but it seems to just be crashing more in general (like, no errors just an instant quit). Starting to question how reliable this software is.

With my small sampling, it sadly seems to be that the older and more complex a sequence is, the more likely it will cause crashes. :(

Do you overclock? Is your power supply dying spring heavy load?

A BSOD seems to me that your system just give up, probably power related.

When i build my machine, I've of the thing I do, is to get a power supply that is much better than what I need, so you never run out of juice at the worst moment.

Get some of the math software that crunch insane amount of math in your gpu to make it work at the maximum potential and see if that overload the system.

One major culprit found: It looks like video clips from hailuoAI seem to make Resolve crash quite a lot.

I dont overclock. As for stress test 3d mark runs successfully on my system and my PSU should be more than enough at 1350W. Good tips though, thank you.

3D Mark is not a stress test, it is a benchmark.

TestMem5 with Anta777 extreme preset, OOCT, these are Memory/CPU stress tests.

If your computer ends up in a BSOD the culprit is the hardware and not Davinci Resolve. DR just triggers the instability on your system.

You don't need to OC, one bad RAM stick is enough to throw it all.

You could also try something, it is a long shot but might be worth it. Disable fTPM from BIOS, some people claim instability on the system while this is on, it is a blunder between MS and AMD on certificates, each company blaming each other for it.

Did you by any chance recently install a Windows update? I've been using DaVinci Resolve for years and it's always been rock solid. Since I installed the new Windows 11 update (the one that's infamous for having a lot of bugs from what I've gathered) DaVinci Resolve crashes 100% of the times when I try to drop anything (video, audio, photo) on the timeline. I've changed nothing with my system other than the latest Windows update.
