Spatial support photos only?

PostTue Nov 12, 2024 8:00 pm

The specs for 19.1 say support for decoding spatial photos on media page and encoding MV-HEVC video on the delivery page?

Does it only support spatial photos as an input source and not MV-HEVC or is that just worded poorly?

Do you have a clip for testing you can share? We can give it a shot.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Yes. Here is a G-Drive link with 3 native iPhone spatial videos along with FSBS conversions.

I tried the "crowd_stand" clips. They both worked. (.mov and .mp4).

The .mp4 had two side by side images. That expected?

MV-HEVC files play normally in unsupported apps, so it should look fine. The test would be to make an edit removing something and export it as MV-HEVC and see if it is retaining both images. If it is possible to upload the export back to my folder I could check it on the Vision Pro.

It may be the case that we would still have trouble start with SBS conversions and then Resolve just takes care of the reinjection.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, you can edit spatial video and render it back out as spatial video in MV-HEVC format.

Thank you Rohit.

May I suggest you amend the Media page info for 19.1 to include "decodes photos and videos",..

Hi

In terms of capabilities you are right - DaVinci Resolve 19.1 can encode and decode spatial video, and decode spatial photos.

DaVinci Resolve 19.0 could already decode MV-HEVC clips. The new features in 19.1 are the ability to decode spatial photos, and the ability to encode MV-HEVC clips.

Hope that clarifies the announcement.

Regards
Shrinivas
