NVIDIA Neural Engine Optimization rebuild every restart

PostMon Mar 03, 2025 4:13 pm

UGH!

Every time I restart Resolve (Studio), it wants to re-optimize the Neural Engines.

This started after my RTX 3080 died last week, and I upgraded to an RTX 5080. Resolve doesn't seem to remember that it's done the optimization.

I've tried switching the GPU Processing mode from Auto to Manual selection, and after searching the forum for the Optimization location, checked to see if there were any changes to the file size in .../DVIP/Cache/TensorRT.cache

Instead of generating a TensorRT.cache file, it's creating a file named 6310B926BA434555.cache

I also tried manually renaming that file to TensorRT, but on every launch, the old file disappears, and a new 631... cache is generated.

And it's only 20KB in size, whereas the old TensorRT file with the 3090 was over 1GB

Thanks!

making sure you are on the latest studio drivers from NV and reinstalling resolve would be my first troubleshooting step.

Windows is famously picky about upgrading GPU (though usually AMD to NV or vise versa), DDU and installing drivers again may be step two.

You are probably one of a few dozen people running resolve on 50 series, so expect teething pains.

Thanks. I've done everything except re-install Resolve, which will have to wait until a couple of mission critical jobs get client-approved, hoping for end of week.

Resolve's performance hasn't suffered, even when working with 6K Red footage, 3D color keyed, graded and face-refined, along with other Fusion comps thrown in.

The tiny *.cache file is suggesting to me it's the fact that it's the 5000 series fault.

I wouldn't have been an early adopter, except the 3090 died, and it just so happened a local chain had a single 5080 in stock... it was that, or an AMD GPU, which I haven't used in any context in 15 years or more.

Still no logs?

We know resolve has writing access, so it's not a write permission problem in that folder.

It's all about eliminating all the things the problem is not :)

I have same question. Maybe we should wait BMD update 19.1.4 for 5000 series.

black magic have been very quiet about this but resolve studio 19.1.3 does not support the new 50 series gpu's at the moment (i had to go through quite a few back and forth emails with them before sending my logs and they then told me the card is not supported)
There has been no acknowledgement of the issue and nothing posted on their site, there is also no info on when an update may come although puget systems and some reviewers had a copy that did support the 50 series at launch,
i know we aren't huge money to black magic but we are still customers and its pretty disappointing that bm are saying nothing (feels a lot like we have your money so now we dont care)
i got my card on launch day so its been almost two months of waiting so far and no idea when i will be able to use my custom built set up for the actual purpose i built it

Exactly.
Moment cards been released and available (at least in theory) BM should post some note/comment that 50x series is not supported in latest Resolve (update will come). Plain simple message. Costs practically nothing.
Instead they will get many tickets, waste time to investigate and reply every one separately that 50x is not supported. Their choice :D

i was almost arguing with support as they insisted there was no issue with the 50 series cards until they had my logs then suddenly it wasnt supported, at first they even insisted that it was supported and should be stable

They are probably releasing the Resolve 20 or 19.5 at NAB in a couple of weeks. They've had a long time to test the 50 series cards maybe fewer problems likely with the first Beta's.

They really need to start releasing Alpha tests in addition to beta’s.

Just following up, since the 19.1.4 update.

No change, on the optimization process. That being said, I just disabled it for now.

The 5080 is performing better than the 3090 did, even without optimizations. Since I haven't run into a GPU memory issue since the days of using an 8GB card, I'll keep on truckin' and see what comes out of NAB
