Freeze Magic Mask 2 tracking

PostWed Apr 09, 2025 8:44 am

If the current Magic Mask 2 tracking speeds are indicative of the final version, I think being able to avoid retracking would be a priority at least for me.

So could we get a simple toggle "Freeze" for the mask, please?

How it might work:
- track on object with Magic Mask 2
- once you are satisfied with the result, select "Freeze"
- when "Freeze" would be enabled, retracking would never be initiated (also not when rendering)
- unchecking the "Freeze" would either trigger automatic retracking (if there have been changes down-stream, current V1 behavior) or enable manual editing.

If the tracked/selected pixels would react to downstream edits (eg Group Pre-Clip) this would be nice but not that important.

Downstream changes shouldn't invalidate the Mask. Upstream changes rightly would.

This is how I've seen it work in 19. (Haven't tested 20 MM yet.)
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

OK, I guess I used upstream and downstream the wrong way. My point is that with the "Freeze", it is not invalidated in either case.
