I recently spent weeks trying to figure out why my internet kept hitting a 150GB daily data cap, sometimes before noon.
After monitoring my Mac’s network activity, I found that DaVinci Resolve was silently uploading huge amounts of data in the background — even though I wasn’t doing any sharing, backups, or exports.
[For context:
- Device: MacBook Pro 16-inch (M1 Pro, 2021)
- 16GB RAM, macOS Sequoia 15.3.1
- DaVinci Resolve Studio 19 → upgraded to 20 Public Beta
- Blackmagic Design Cloud (Paid plan with 2GB limit)
The Issue
The culprit? Proxy Auto Sync.
Even with only 2GB of cloud storage, Resolve was continuously uploading proxy files every time I worked on a project. There was no indication this was happening — no progress bar, no alerts, no confirmation. Just silent, ongoing traffic.
At one point, my system showed over 1TB in upload history, and the data cap from my ISP (internet provider) would get hit daily, causing my connection to throttle.
The Fix
I disabled Proxy Auto Sync via `Blackmagic Cloud > Blackmagic Cloud Storage Syncing > For media files > checking ‘Don’t sync media’
The result? Upload traffic **immediately stopped**. 100% confirmed.
Suggestion to Fellow Editors
If you use DaVinci Resolve — especially versions 19 or 20 — and you're seeing unexplained high bandwidth usage, please check this setting. It's enabled by default, and it can quietly burn through your data — especially dangerous for anyone with capped internet.
