Thanks. I'd swear I looked there.

So the 24.9.1 Adrenalin driver listed is much newer that the Crimson 23.10.24.05 currently installed.

So download and install the 24.9.1 Adrenalin driver (Not the Pro Edition driver) and see if that helps.

Hello, I need help - Davinci Resolve won't start! Two days ago I did some video editing and tried to Optimized Media an mp4 video. This video is for special effects for my video game editing.I had successfully Optimized Media one video of a similar kind before this one. However, I didn't realize that my storage is actually almost or already full and I tried to force the video to Optimized Media many times. There is one time where Davinci Resolve tried to Optimize Media the video but it stays at 4% all the time and won't progress further. Then, I tried to close it but resulted in Davinci Resolve not responding. I opened the Task Manager to End Task for Davinci Resolve.

Next, I launched Davinci Resolve again and opened the Preferences to add a new Location/Local Disk but it seems like it still used the Local Disk C: that I'm currently used which is almost/already full. Then, I did the same thing as before; tried to forced Optimized Media that video - Resolve not responding then End Task and tried to launch Davinci again. This time however, Davinci Resolve won't open anymore. There's the small blue circle on my mouse indicator after I tried to launch Davinci and it disappeared as soon as it can. Davinci Resolve simply won't launch anymore.

Today, I've noticed in the Task Manager Processes and it shows ''Windows Problem Reporting'' after trying to launch Davinci Resolve but only for a mere seconds. I couldn't figure out what it was.
I've tried various solutions available especially on Youtube and this thread except uninstall then re-install and doing something on BIOS but nothing works. Any help would be very appreciated!

Windows 10 Pro
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz 4.00 GHz
RAM: 64.0 GB
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 (latest version)

I have attached the Resolve Log file and System Information below (I removed the '' https://www. '' because the system just won't allow me to post URL)

Your config.dat and config.dat.bak files are bad.

Open File Explorer Options, and on the View tab, enable "Show hidden files, folders and drives".

Also unselect "Hide extensions for known file types".

Then in File Explorer, navigate to this folder:

C:\Users\acrox\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Preferences

Delete the config.dat file.

Delete the config.dat.bak file.

Now Resolve should start.

It will recreate the config file with the default starting info. If you had any Preferences modifications made, be sure to reapply those after starting.

If Resolve still doesn't start, send a new Resolve log file.

You apparently had an NVIDIA GPU installed in your system at some point, and the NVIDIA driver is crashing the Resolve GPU detect process.

Try renaming this file:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nv_dispi.inf_amd64_fa77e19594721328\nvcuda64.dll

to:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nv_dispi.inf_amd64_fa77e19594721328\nvcuda64.dll.tmp

And see if that helps.

I went ahead and got all the Nvidia drivers gone, they where not used anyways. Now the program is working. Thank you so much! I have been off and on working on fixing this for 2 months now.

For some reason, you have multiple config files that have become corrupted.

The following process will MOVE your Resolve preferences files to a backup location. This will force Resolve to create a new set of default preferences files when it launches. If this solves the launch issue, that would imply there was some corrupt preferences related file causing the startup issue.

Open File Explorer Options, and on the View tab, enable "Show hidden files, folders and drives".

Also unselect "Hide extensions for known file types".

Then in File Explorer, navigate to this folder:

C:\Users\Paradox\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

Rename the Preferences folder to Preferences.old

Now see if Resolve will start.

If it does, it will have all the Resolve preferences set to default values.

If Resolve still doesn't start, send a new Resolve log file.

Hi Dwaine!

I've been having some issues with getting my DR to start up. Blue loading icon but nothing comes up.

I've tried several different methods in this thread to fix my issue along with other suggestions from youtube videos to no avail which is so frustrating as I've got a deadline to meet :(

So I'm wondering if you would be able to help me out. Would tremendously appreciate the help as I loved using DR and would love to continue to use it. Thank you in advance.

Here are the NFO. and Capturelogs. Not sure why the NFO. shows audio file though. Let me know If you need anything else to help me :D

Your config.dat file is bad. You have a good backup copy.

Open File Explorer Options, and on the View tab, enable "Show hidden files, folders and drives".

Also unselect "Hide extensions for known file types".

Then in File Explorer, navigate to this folder:

C:\Users\PC\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Preferences

Delete the config.dat file.

Right click the config.dat.bak file and select Copy.

Now select the Paste menu. That should make a new file called config.dat - Copy.bak

Rename that file to config.dat

Now Resolve should start.

If Resolve still doesn't start, send a new Resolve log file.

I am having a similar issue in which Davinci Resolve will not open on my Windows 11. I uninstalled the latest version and reinstalled an eariler version. Still same issue. Some times the program will tell me that it unexpectedly quit. I have updated the drivers for my Nvidia GEFORCE 2070 Super. I have set my PC to maximum performance. I have tried deleting the config.dat file. I am out of options with my own skill set. Can you help me please?

In a File Explorer window, go to:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows Desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Then open the Windows System Information app and do a File - Save (Not a File Export), which will generate a .NFO file.

Place both those files on a file sharing site and provide links to the files here. Make sure the links don't require access credentials.

If you are a new Forum user, you may not be allowed to post URLs. If this happens, just put a space near the front of the URL, so the system doesn't think it's a URL.

Hi Dwaine,
Please help me check why Davinci Resolve won't start if my intel graphic card is enabled. I have both intel and Nvidia driver updated to the latest. I tried deleting the "preference" folder and restart. resolver only went through the first steps of setting up env but still won't start. log shared here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bm0ayH ... drive_link
Thanks,

Your NFO file is corrupt and will not open in the System Information app. Please create another NFO, and then verify that if you double click it, it opens in System Information. Then send a working version.

Resolve is currently crashing during it's GPU detect process. If I have a working NFO, that will hopefully provide a clue as to what's crashing the GPU detect process.

Sorry about that. Something is wrong with my PC that system information saved .nfo file is always corrupt. The file saving exit on module "winsock". Not sure what went wrong, but it may take long for me to figure it out.
But in "Windows Error Reporting", I do see some log like this. Not sure if it gives any information?

Resolve is currently crashing during it's GPU detect process. If I have a working NFO, that will hopefully provide a clue as to what's crashing the GPU detect process.

Re: Resolve won't start

Resolve was working on 3-9 and was exited on 3-10 at 00:46:33

Then at 00:46:38 was launched again, and had the GPU detect crash.

Same at 00:47:05.

Then a launch at 00:51:49 and got past the GPU detect stage and appears to have launched normally and the landscape project was loaded. Then Resolve was exited at 01:00:05

Launched again at 01:00:08, and got past the GPU detect stage, but only barely then appears to have crashed before getting very far into the loading process.

Then launched again at 01:07:39 with a GPU detect crash. And all subsequent launches after that also have GPU detect crashes.

So a question would be: what changed on the system between 00:46:33 and 00:46:38 to cause the first 2 GPU detect crashes. And then what changed from 00:46:38 and 00:51:49 to allow a normal launch? And then what changed after that normal launch at 00:51:49 and 01:00:08 where the GPU detect crashing returned?

Gee that smells to me like auto power management switching between something in the gpu. Or maybe switching GPUs altogether.

Hi Dwaine,
The difference between normal and crash case is that I enabled the integrated Intel GPU. If I disable it, DR starts ok. I'm enabling Intel GPU only because DR does not decode H265 with just the Nvidia GPU.

And if I disable the Nvidia GPU, DR also crashes with the Intel GPU only. So, it seems to be something related to the "Intel(R) UHD Graphics 770". I do have the latest driver for it installed. Any way to tell the exact trace of the crash on it?

Thanks

That's surprising. Resolve should not launch if you disable the Intel iGPU. That should cause an OpenGL error that prevents Resolve from launching.

No, I don't have a way to know why the Intel iGPU would be crashing. Probably doesn't like something about the Intel graphics driver.

DaVinci Resolve Won't Start

PostThu Mar 13, 2025 8:31 am

Hi, I have the same problem. When I launch the application, sometimes the loading screen appears for a few seconds and then disappears. Other times, it doesn't show up at all, and I can only see DaVinci Resolve briefly in the Task Manager before it disappears. I don't know what to do...

My hardware isn’t great, but before formatting my computer, the latest version was running without major issues. Here are my specs:
- Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
- GTX 1050 Ti 4GB
Any help would be appreciated!

Hello, same here ... Davinci Resolve stopped working.
Splash screen appears with modules loading messages, then disappears.
So I prepared a folder containing the files you ask for (log and nfo).
Please take a look at the files, thanks!

Hi,
I have been using Davinci Resolve for some years, but suddenly it won't start. I can open it but after a short while it disappears. I was using version 18.1 (I think). I then uninstalled this version and downloaded the latest version (19 something). Yesterday it started up completely, but now it won't start.
What can I do?
I see a lot of answers but frankly I don't understand. I am not good with computers at all.

Hello Dwaine, I am having the same issue as many others. Tried some of the suggested fixes, but had no luck. Can you help me. It started happening last week, after an update it worked and then it isn't anymore.

@Pierre: It's not obvious from the logs what's making Resolve hang. Based on the NFO errors, I would have expected some .dmp files to be returned with the Resolve logs.

But...I see you have Nord VPN, and it seems that recently people using that have had Resolve startup issues caused by the DaVinci Resolve Control Panels app.

So I'd recommend you open the Windows "Add or remove programs" Control Panel, and select the DaVinci Resolve Control Panels app and then uninstall it.

Does that solve the startup issue?

I don't know. The GPU detect is crashing. The NFO shows a bunch of nvopencl64.dll and nvcuda64.dll related Resolve errors.

It's a laptop with a Ryzen 7 CPU with Radeon graphics. But that Radeon graphics isn't showing up anywhere. Maybe it's been disabled in BIOS? But seems surprising it's not evident anywhere.

So the NVIDIA graphics issues, if not related to whatever is hiding the AMD Radeon, are likely related to Windows graphics settings. You'd want to open the Windows graphics settings and ensure the GPU is set for high performance, and probably add Resolve to the GPU performance list.

If it's none of that, maybe there's an issue issue with the NVIDIA 572.83 driver that's installed. You could use the DDU app to totally remove that, and then do a clean install, perhaps with a 566 series driver, since there seem to be a lot of reported issues with 57x series drivers these days.

Actually, I see you had tried some other earlier drivers with the 19 beta 1 code. But the NFO shows 572.83 currently installed.

And finally, you probably don't want to be using the Resolve 19 beta 1 software that is shown is several logs. If you want to use 19, use the current 19.1.4 version. If you want to use the 18.6.6 that is shown in the other half of the logs, that should be OK.

4:USE hign perfomance mode

I'm out of suggestions. Resolve is still crashing at the GPU detect stage. And both the NFO and Windows .dmp files show this as the offending issue: nvcuda64.dll

If you've uninstalled the NVIDIA driver with DDU and reinstalled it, I don't know what else to suggest for such an error.

Hello, i hope someone can finally help me after all that years. I used davinci Resolve long time ago and liked it a lot, but it stopped working. After some updates i tried it once more. It does nothing, no loading screen, nothing. After that i tried many things, but everything failed. After years i tried it again, because i got a new GPU, CPU and Motherboard. But after that it crashes also. Tried it on my laptop. Its the same problem.

Here is the log from my DesktopPC:

I'm not sure what you've sent. The files in the log file are dated August 30, 2023. And the only Resolve log shows a GPU detect error at startup. Using Resolve 18.5.1

So that seems like a very old log.

The NFO file shows current errors using Resolve 19.1.3.

The only thing I can suggest without proper Resolve logs, is that you have 2 virtual display adapters configured, Those have been known to cause issues with Resolve. So I'd recommend opening Windows Device Manager, selecting Display Adapters, and disabling the 2 virtual adapters, and see if that helps.

Your config.dat and .config.data related files are bad. You have a good backup copy of the config.dat file, which is the most important.

Open File Explorer Options, and on the View tab, enable "Show hidden files, folders and drives".

Also unselect "Hide extensions for known file types".

Then in File Explorer, navigate to this folder:

C:\Users\markd\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Preferences

Delete the config.dat file and .config.data files.

Right click the config.dat.bak file and select Copy.

Now select the Paste menu. That should make a new file called config.dat - Copy.bak

Rename that file to config.dat

Now Resolve should start.

If Resolve still doesn't start, send a new Resolve log file.

That single file does not help. Please provide the following:

Hi Dwaine,
You fix this you'll get your angel wings!

I'm so grateful you haven't retired after having read your 1000's of posts on this wonderful forum.

"Misery loves company" huh?

However, your razor sharp intellect gives me a kernel of hope, I'm incomprehensibly demoralized!

DaVinci Resolve Studio is my first love... here are the files you requested, looks like pure gibberish

I don't think I can take the stress!

Hello,

It seems I'm just another victim in this long line of sufferers whose DaVinci program won't start ;) I have had two days of fruitless searching with Google and ChatGpt and no results! Okay, at least Windows has received a bunch of new drivers, including the graphics card driver...

I haven’t made any hardware changes. It might be related to a Windows update or some deeper system setting. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling different versions of Resolve, cleaning leftover files, updating GPU drivers (using clean installation), updating C++ Libraries etc., but nothing helps. Resolve simply does not start, it stops usually with the splash screen message "Loading video plugins".

Any help would be much appreciated :!:

System information of the computer (NFO file) and DaVinci's log file are here:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... drive_link

Best regards,

Arne

Good afternoon, my log files and system information https://disk.yandex.ru/d/yztghtxd7lKgmg
Can't start davinci, everything worked fine on version 19.4 then I put the 20th it worked for 3 days and stopped starting. I tried 19 and 18, they don't start. I put driver 566, I cleaned the registry, I deleted config files. Nothing helps from the advice on this forum.

Your Topaz OFX plugin is crashing Resolve.

To verify this is the case, do the following:

Disable 3rd party OFX Plugins in Resolve for Windows

If 3rd party OFX plugins are causing Resolve not to start, do the following to troubleshoot:

In File Explorer, go to this folder:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX

In the OFX folder is a folder called Plugins

Rename the Plugins folder to Plugins.orig

Now Resolve should start.

In the Plugins folder will be folder for each OFX package you've installed. Move those out of the Plugins folder one at a time, to figure out which is causing the issue with Resolve.

Of course, change Plugins.orig back to Plugins when you do that.
