Is there a way to make the DaVinci Resolve UI brighter?

PostThu Apr 17, 2025 5:18 pm

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to check if there’s a way to adjust the UI brightness in Resolve. I searched around and from what I found, correct me if im wrong, there’s no option to set a custom theme or make the interface brighter.
As far as I understand, the only setting I could find is under Preferences then User then UI Settings, where there’s an option called “Use Gray Background for User Interface.” That switches the background to a lighter gray, but it still doesn’t feel like a full brightness control or theme change.

I know DaVinci is mostly focused on color grading and professional workflows, so maybe this isn’t something that is offered, but I just wanted to check if I kinda missed anything. Is there any way to make the interface brighter or customize the theme more than that?

Thanks

No, there is no way to customize the UI themes or brightness.

I just optimize my computer display to make everything easy to read. I don't change the brightness for Resolve if I have to check a website or write a note on the same screen. I'd say I'm just used to it.

Thanks, guys, for your answers. At least now I know for sure that it’s not possible, so I won't waste more time digging through the settings trying to find it hahah

I too have difficulty reading the elements on screen.

Resolve is based on Qt framework, right? Can't you somehow hack the configuration file and set a light background with dark text?

So, does anybody know how to make the interface appear a bit brighter?

We can't.

I have an eye condition that makes it nearly impossible to read such low contrast UI elements. I'm an editor for a TV channel and the managers decided to invest in a unified workflow with Resolve for all of us. I can understand that colorists prefer darker environments, but for the majority of production we work in a well lit room.

But really, isn't there a settings file that you tweak and change some attributes?

Windows has a whole suite of UI functions to force colours and contrast under accessibility features.

Not ideal as it affects everything, but it might help if carefully adjusted.

I'd assume Mac and Linux do the same.

Until Resolve has this (I still can’t believe this hasn’t been addressed over the years), I think the best thing for you to do is basically what Mark said— adjust your UI display(s) until you can see the UI better.

This may even take cranking RGB controls, etc in crazy ways… I haven’t tried it. Then you’ll just have to ignore the display’s color for the video and only look at your dedicated output monitor for color.
