Hi everyone,
I've been struggling for several days trying to get DaVinci Resolve Free to launch on my Windows 11 PC, and I’m completely stuck. As soon as I open the program, it closes instantly and shows the “DaVinci Resolve quit unexpectedly” dialog box. No log files are generated (the Logs folder is completely empty), and I’ve already submitted the crash report multiple times.
System specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X
GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 4080 (Studio Driver 572.83)
RAM: 64GB DDR5
OS: Windows 11 Pro (fully updated)
Storage: Samsung 980 Pro NVMe SSDs
DaVinci Resolve: Tested with DaVinci Resolve 20 Public Beta and DaVinci Resolve 19.1.4
Things I’ve already tried (full cleanup and diagnostics):
Full uninstall with Revo Uninstaller Pro
Deleted all AppData, ProgramData, registry keys related to Blackmagic and DaVinci
Installed all required Visual C++ Redistributables
Cleaned system with sfc /scannow, DISM, etc.
Updated NVIDIA drivers to latest Studio version
Created a new Windows user profile
Changed permissions with icacls to ensure folder access
Tried launching with environment variable to reroute cache and config folders
Installed CUDA Toolkit just in case Resolve needed something from it
Ran Process Monitor to analyze startup (Resolve crashes within 2 seconds with a flood of “NAME NOT FOUND” and “BUFFER OVERFLOW” entries)
Confirmed that Resolve logs folder is empty
Resolve works fine on my MacBook Pro using the same installer and account info
My main workstation is this Windows machine. Premiere Pro runs perfectly. I wanted to move to Resolve, but this has been incredibly frustrating.
At this point I’m just hoping someone has had a similar experience or knows what might be causing this. I'm not using the Studio version, so I can’t get direct support from Blackmagic.
Thanks in advance for any ideas you might have.
