Inconsistent Zoom and Position speed when eased in\out

PostWed Apr 23, 2025 12:00 pm

Here's a sample video recorded in DVR 19.1.4:

In the first part as you can see, the figure moves consistently along a linear spline with the same speed at the beginning and at the end - due to the linear keyframes in the Zoom and Position values.
In the second part I eased out the starting keyframes and eased in the ending ones. The speed changed accordingly but the figure now moves along an S-shaped spline at the beginning and at the end. This is not an acceptable behaviour for such a tool. I suppose when you apply easing, it changes both temporal and spatial curves of both the properties. Or it's due to the difference in the values. Anyways this should be fixed, because it renders easing in the Edit tab unusable.

PS: I know I can do it in Fusion. And yes, I know, I can use the anchor point. That's not what I'm talking about.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like Blackmagic is going to get this right any time soon. It has been an issue for 8+ years with countless forum posts discussing it.

Things got a little bit better in the latest 20 beta with the new keyframe panel, but it's still much more challenging to do accurate keyframe easing compared to the Fusion page or other apps, and especially when working with multiple parameters.

There are some tools like this that may help though:

Thanks for the info. That's strange such an essential thing as pla proper keyframing has never been in the dev's agenda...
