Hello everyone,
I’ve been facing critical issues with DaVinci Resolve Studio while working on projects involving Fusion compositions (3D models and hologram effects). Despite multiple troubleshooting steps, I’m still encountering both system reboots (now mitigated through project restructuring) and persistent application crashes. Here’s all the relevant information to see if anyone has found solutions for these problems:
System Specifications:
Problems Encountered:
Troubleshooting Steps Taken:
Has anyone experienced similar issues with system reboots or application crashes caused by cache handling and GPU memory allocation? Are there additional steps I can take to resolve the cache-related errors? I have detailed logs, but the full diagnostic file is too large to share here. Let me know which specific sections or files would be most helpful to provide.

Despite multiple troubleshooting steps, I’m still encountering both system reboots (now mitigated through project restructuring) and persistent application crashes. Here’s all the relevant information to see if anyone has found solutions for these problems:
System Specifications:
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 (no overclocking).
- Drivers: Switched between NVIDIA Studio Driver (572.83) and Game Ready Driver (latest version).
- DirectX: Version 12.
- CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-14700K.
- RAM: 64 GB (XMP enabled).
- OS: Windows 11.
Problems Encountered:
- System Reboots (Mitigated):
When opening or working on a specific project involving complex Fusion compositions, my entire system would unexpectedly reboot.
Analyzing crash dumps pointed to the dxgmms2.sys module, indicating a DirectX or GPU memory allocation issue. Using HWInfo, I observed that GPU memory allocation (allocated and dynamic) frequently remained at zero during intensive tasks.
Switching to the Game Ready Driver did not resolve the issue.
How I Mitigated the Reboots:- I restructured my project to reduce the load on the GPU: - Divided the video into smaller, more manageable parts. - Moved the heavy Fusion composition to a separate timeline.
- DaVinci Resolve Crashes (Ongoing):
While the system no longer reboots, DaVinci Resolve crashes intermittently when working on the project.
Logs show repeated cache-related errors:- Code: Select all
Failed to read frame frame from video frame <...>, error: <File does not exist, or file format is not recognizable.>
These errors persist even after clearing and regenerating the cache folder.
Additional logs show GPU memory flushes and cache invalidation due to timestamp inconsistencies.
Troubleshooting Steps Taken:
- Cache Management:
Deleted cache files from the CacheClip folder and allowed Resolve to regenerate them. - Driver Updates:
Switched between Studio Drivers and Game Ready Drivers to test compatibility. - GPU Stress Tests:
Ran FurMark stress tests; GPU showed no overheating or hardware issues. - Reinstallations and Updates:
Reinstalled DaVinci Resolve Studio and ensured it’s running the latest version. - Project Restructuring:
Reduced project complexity by dividing it into smaller timelines and isolating Fusion-heavy elements.
