I'm reaching out to see if anyone else is experiencing this issue or might have some insights.
I'm running DaVinci Resolve Studio on a MacBook Pro M4 Max with a 14-core CPU. I've recently started encountering serious performance problems when using Neighbor Clip mode during color grading. Specifically, playback becomes extremely choppy and my CPU usage spikes dramatically, essentially maxing out during this mode.
Here are some more details:
Footage: 4K Sony S-Log3
Grading: Using around 12–15 nodes per clip.
Mode: This issue only occurs in Neighbor Clip mode (split screen playback). No problems in full-screen playback, standard single clip mode, or any other part of the software.
System: macOS on a MacBook Pro M4 Max, 14-core CPU, plenty of RAM (36gm) and disk speed isn't an issue as I'm using a dedicated 2TB Samsung which works perfectly in all other aspects of editing.
Given the power of the M4 Max chip, I'm surprised to see this level of CPU stress in what seems like a relatively contained use case. It feels like something’s not being hardware-accelerated properly in this particular playback mode, but that’s just speculation.
Has anyone else seen similar behavior? Are there any known optimizations or settings I could tweak to reduce the CPU load in this mode?
Thanks in advance for any help or thoughts!
