Choppy Playback with Any One Effect in Place

PostMon May 05, 2025 2:48 pm

Hi,

Seem to have recently encountered issues with playback, that mean any effects in play really impacts playback. Even just a single effect, and one node

422 10-bit SLOG3 clips
4070 Ti GPU (maxing-out) - laterst driver
DR19.1.4
Timeline 1080p

Have tried a number of troubleshooting steps. Creating Optimised Media works on the Edit page, as does Render Cache (but this is painfully slow), as also is Create Opt Media to an extent
And then needs rerendering as soon as a change is made

Format: DNxHR SQ

Any suggestions gratefully received

What effects?

Playback without effects is fine?

Thanks for your message

Playback is fine with just grades

Effects in this case: sharpening or noise reduction,

When any of these are disabled (cntl+D) playback is fine

Noise Reduction can definitely slow things down, depending on your settings. Cache would be the way to get back to real time there.

Another approach you can take is with Node Stacks. You can put the NR on it's own stack and then Bypass just that stack while you're working, then re-enable it before export.

Can you elaborate on the cache point here?

Cheers

What's your level of Understanding regarding Cache? Have you ever read the Reference Manual section on that?
