Problem with Persistent Black Bars 6.2K 3:2 Footage to 4K

PostWed May 07, 2025 6:32 pm

Hey everyone,
I'm having trouble with black bars that appear above and below my footage in DaVinci Resolve. I'm working with 6.2K video recorded in a 3:2 aspect ratio and placing it into a 4096×2160 (DCI 4K) timeline. Even though I've set “Scale full frame with crop” under image scaling settings, the black bars remain visible — especially on my second monitor (used for clean feed/output preview). When I zoom into the clip using Transform or even in the Fusion page, the image zooms, but the black bars stay exactly where they are, like they're baked into the timeline.

Oddly enough, when I change the timeline resolution to 3840×2160 (UHD 16:9), everything works fine — no black bars at all. So I’m wondering:
am I missing a project setting that crops/pads the video differently?
I also Exported the video to see if its just a playback bug, but the black bars are still there after export
Any ideas would be appreciated!

DCI is slightly wider than UHD, so this behavior makes sense.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.
