Resolve 19.1.4 - 119.88 fps playback lag in 24 fps timeline

PostFri May 09, 2025 2:34 pm

System:
MacOS 15.3.2
3.8 GHZ Quad i5
Radeon Pro 580 8 GB
64 GB 2400MHz DDR4

Greetings,

As you can see I do not have a maxed-out system, but it was working fine until it wasn't....

I was given a project with ten 24fps timelines with video clips at a variety of fps. I had no trouble with playback on the first five timelines I opened. However, when I opened the sixth timeline, playback was fine until it got to one of the 119.88 clips, then playback, for that clip, lagged to 7.3 - 9.8 fps. The other, non-119.88 clips, play fine.

The clip has no Color Grades or Fusion effects; I have even Bypassed those effects in the preview window.

My timeline is playing back a 1/4 resolution. I have proxies, and Prefer Proxies is set, but it is as if that clip is not using its proxy, e.g.:

1a) When I loaded the proxy file directly from Finder into the timeline, it played back at 24 fps.
1b) However, when I drag the clip from the Media Pool it plays back at 9.8 fps.

2) Selecting Generate Optimized Media fixes the problem. It's like it made a new proxy.

Note:
* the clip that is giving me trouble worked fine in the first five timelines I worked on.
* it only started giving me trouble in the sixth timeline
* now that same clip lags in the the five timelines in which it had previously worked fine.

I look forward to any comments or suggestions.

Thanks,
Ted
