Project Deletion

PostMon May 12, 2025 4:38 am

I'm unable to delete projects from my local libraries. I can delete them in the usual manner but the next time I open that library they are back. I presently have 3 local libraries and this is true in all of them. I'm using v19.4 Can anyone help?

I think I posted this question about a week ago, but I can't find it now. My apologies if this is a duplicate posting.

I just made a copy of an existing project in the Local Disk Database, and I had no problem right-clicking and deleting it. I've never seen a project come back from the dead after deleting it, though I don't deny you're seeing something. I also tried selecting a project and just deleted it with the Backspace key (in Mac OS), and had no problem.

However, I'm using 20b3, but I don't think the delete process has changed any between 19 and 20.

Thanks for the reply, but that's my whole point - I've been using Davinci since version 15 and have never had problems deleting projects either, until a few weeks ago.

One user reported seeing something similar with files that were stored in an Online folder, like Dropbox or Google Drive.

Those services are great for sharing, but the files should always be moved out of such folders before working with them. (And definitely don't create your Library there.)

Does that apply here?

Thanks you for your reply. All the files are stored on my computer. I've cleaned up the libraries by deleting the old projects in Windows File Explorer. They now no longer appear in the Resolve Project Manager. I've created one test project in one library and was able to delete that one in the usual way. I will probably update to v20 during the 4th or 5th Beta. Maybe the new install will solve the problem. Maybe.

Dropbox, One Drive and Google Drive can all have folders "on your computer".

You should never store any files for Resolve in those folders. Move them out of those folders before you work with them.

Thank you for your suggestion. I do use Onedrive. Unfortunately, turning it off did not change the situation.

UPDATE. I tackled the problem as follows.

First, I cleaned up my (3) local my libraries by deleting unwanted projects from Windows File Manager. I created one new project in one of my local libraries and then successfully deleted it in Resolve's Project Manager, but was unable to do that in the two other libraries, where anything I delete doesn't disappear from Windows File Manager location and insists on coming back. These two are older libraries that I restored from backups. Probably something corrupt in the restored backup but the old projects still in there, that I want to keep, are okay.

I sort of solved the problem by creating new libraries with similar names, then cutting and pasting the projects from the old to the new libraries and deleting the old, dysfunctional libraries. I also created test projects that I was able to delete normally from the new libraries. So, long story short, I figured out a workaround for my functional problem but never figured out what caused it or how to fix it. Oh well, all's well that . . .
