Importing video clip only shows as audio.

I'm having an issue with Resolve where I try to import footage and Resolve thinks that it is audio only.

Version: 18.0.1 Build 3

The footage is 1080p, V-log-L, 10-bit 4:2:2 from a Panasonic BGH1. I am the Colourist and I have the original rushes. The footage plays back fine on VLC and in Premiere Pro with picture and sound. I am also on Windows 10.

Any advice or assistance would be appreciated.

If you are using the free version of Resolve it will not work with 10bit video files only 8bit. This is why you would see only the audio imported.
If you are using the Studio version it would imply that Resolve does not recognise the codec.

That codec should work in Studio.

Ahhh that must be it. I am in the free version of Resolve currently.

Although I do want to upgrade to Studio, I am not in the position to financially. I'm wondering if there may be a temporary workaround of transcoding to ProRes 422 HQ and using those files instead? CST/CM should work the same on those clips right and the information should be mostly the same aside from the tiniest of compression?

Go to the Microsoft store and spend $.99 on the HEVC Video Extensions package, and that LIKELY will allow you to use those files. Not a guarantee. Hopefully you can risk $.99 on the experiment.

If that doesn't work, use the Shutter Encoder (free) to batch transcode.

What exact version of Resolve? And is it the free or Studio version?

What OS is on the computer?

Have actually discovered that the video editor who created the video editors must have used a wrong codec or something on half the videos. I put them through a video converter and they are now all working. Many thanks.

I am actually using DaVinciResolve Studio (I have the payed version) and I cant load my Sony A7 IV 10 bit 4-2-2 footage into the timeline.

In my camera, the codec is called 140M 4:2:2 10 bit 25fps 4k

I used to be able to load it in, however after the last 2 updates it's not possible anymore.

Any suggestions?

Are you sure you have the Studio version installed? When you launch Resolve, does it say Studio on the splash screen? If you select the About DaVinci Resolve menu, does it say Studio?

I had the same problem, with free license, and what worked for me was making a PRORES version of the video.
I used Media Encoder

I had the same issue, just after installation of Resolve Studio - DaVinci Resolve 20 Public Beta 3. Suddenly my previous footage recorded with Canon LOG3 became invisible, only waveforms were accessible. After removing that beta version I came back to my previous version which was DaVinci Resolve Studio 19.1.4 and all again are working fine. So, in my case just that beta version did not work correctly.

I had the same issue, just after installation of Resolve Studio - DaVinci Resolve 20 Public Beta 3.

This is likely because you installed the free version, which i believe doesn't do 10 bit video (only 8 bit)
You can convert your footage to 8 bit using shutter encoder or handbrake.

Or if like me, you mistakenly downloaded the free version;
you can re-download Beta 3 - but ensure its the studio version - which is below the free version release on this page:

DaVinci Resolve 20.3 Beta running under Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon. Graphics card is NVidia GeForce GTX 970 using driver 570.133.07

I'm having a horrible issue trying to import screen capture videos. I've tried almost every encoding that I can find. Including .mp4, .mpv and .mov. All movie files show up as Audio only, no video, but can be viewed by any "normal" video player.
