Audio dropout in first second of exports

PostThu Mar 31, 2022 3:13 am

Hi,
Exports from the deliver page consistently have audio dropouts within the first second of the exported file. I've been struggling with this bug for a while now (and have seen it reported by many elsewhere). It's a major dealbreaker. I had the occasional export where there is also a dropout later in the file, but the consistent problem is within the first second.

It happens with exports to: ProRes formats (UHD and 1080p), it happens with exports to .mp4 and it also happens with exports to audio only .wav (which was a work-around suggested on Facebook).

I've had the issue with media on the QNAP server as well as projects on a Promise raid.

I've had the issue on my old nMP 2013 as well.

I've tried the render speed throttling, which works to a degree (25 fps or slower = clean export)... but I bought an M1 Max FOR the render speeds, I don't want to be throttled. I've tried 24bit and 1bit and get the bug on both.

Today I laid back a .wav from audio post, soloed it, turned off the Fairlight master bus effects (limiter and mulitband compressor for client preview) and it still had the dropout in the first second of the export to ProRes. Throttled it to 25 fps render speed and the export was clean.

Blackmagic: Is this bug on your hit list? If not, it should be at the very, very top of it.

Thanks,
Mike Kelland

+1000

I'm seeing this also. Huge dealbreaker, I don't understand how this is not being addressed with top priority.

If I render at max speed I also get short dropouts randomly, not only at the very beginning, but also in the first minutes.
At any chance, do you see your dropout at exactly 0,5s with a duration of 512 samples?

I think it has something to do with the new "flex busing system" introduced in v17. Never had such problem in v16. Can you try to set up a new project and first of all enable Llegacy "Use fixed Bus mapping"? Try to export now... I think this is a workaround, but not sure.

From the manual:
Code: Select all
Using Legacy Fixed Busing
If you want to work using the previous method of fixed bus mapping, you can do so for new projects by opening the Fairlight panel of the Project Settings, and turning on the “Use fixed bus mapping” checkbox. This checkbox can only be enabled in new projects in which no timelines have yet been created. Once you’ve created one or more timelines, this option is locked to whatever the project was set to. Older projects have this setting enabled by default to preserve the previous mix.

If one you can provide a small project archive (DRA) which shows the problem, we'll investigate this. If you can also provide logs from your system from the Help menu, we can check your system details.

I will try to set up a session as simple as possible that shows the bug. In my case I'm not doing anything fancy. Just an already finished prores video and adding several audio tracks with 5.1 and stereo versions of the original version, the dubbing and M&E. bog-standard wavs at 48k. No effects at all. In my case audio should be exported track for track basically copying audio 1:1.

Problem/Bug is still present in the latest DR18.2 beta. I'll send you a sample project and the logs.

Is there any update on a fix for this? I'm using 19.0 on Monterey and randomly getting dropouts in the first few seconds. Not happening every time, so I just keep re-exporting until it's clean - but shouldn't be consistently getting this error.
