Fix For Linux: Unsupported GPU Processing Mode

PostMon May 19, 2025 7:00 am

Hi All,

I'm a Linux newbie, but I discovered the fix for the error: Unsupported GPU Processing Mode in Linux.

I use Zorin OS, which is based on Ubuntu, and I was able to install DaVinci_Resolve_20.0b3_Linux, and then to get it to run after encountering the 'Unsupported GPU Processing Mode Please review the GPU drivers and GPU configuration under preferences' by using this command:

sudo apt install mesa-opencl-icd

Honestly, I'm almost bald from pulling out my hair trying to figure this out, and this command was on this forum from CHIH-YUN WU.

I'm at a loss as to why this has be so hard for Linux users. It's 2025, and it's like I'm back in the Win98 days trying to install video drivers.

At any rate, I thought I'd post this to hopefully help others that might be experiencing what I've experienced.

Here are my computer specs:
-AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16-core, 32-thread 3.40GHz
-Sapphire Pulse AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT Gaming Graphics Card
-ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Hero AMD AM4 X570 Zen 3
-750W Thermaltake Smart Pro RGB 80
-DEEPCOOL Gammaxx L120 V2, AIO Liquid CPU Cooler

What drivers do you have installed for the GPU? The closed source ones are required.

Installing resolve on linux is not trivial. I would suggest following a recent guide. It should instruct you on the necessary drivers.

Reminder once you do get resolve working. The free version doesn't support H.264/5 or AAC.

Thanks for the reply.

I did follow the instructions on how to install the latest drivers for Linux on the AMD website, and everything seemed to install correctly.

So, the free version of Resolve doesn't support H.264/5 or AAC? I get it that it's a business, but I'd like to be able to mess around with it for a little bit, and most of all of my media is in those formats. I was able to load in some media into the program, but I couldn't get it to load onto the timeline, and now this explains it as the media was H.264/5 or AAC formats. I couldn't even drag any pictures on to the timeline.

I'll mess around with it some more and watch some videos on the basic functionality of the program, and hopefully I'll be able to get it to work.

Thanks again for the reply. :D
