Resolve crashes everytime on load screen for 17,18,19,20

PostTue May 20, 2025 11:55 am

SOLVED. Solution to uninstall topaz video.
I had never intentionally installed any plugins for resolve, topaz must have done it automatically.

Been using resolve for a year. Zero crashes. Suddenly it would crash on load screen, every time. It is still visible on task manager after crash.
Uninstalled it and installed all previous versions 17.18.19 and 20 beta. Nothing.
After I delete all folders and files related to blackmagic and resolve (using search function) I get a start up option after fresh install, quick setup. Check everything and then in crashed when it tries to start first project. I have tried to install in on a different HDD
I have deleted all Nvidia drivers and reinstalled. Also installed studio drivers and reinstalled game drivers. No change.

Resolve has not started a single time. The program has become un-usable. Everything else works, games, unreal engine, blender.

Any advice?

Give the FAQ a good read. It goes over some troubleshooting steps, as well as what information to post if those fail.

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

do you have any plugins installed?

If so, delete them and try again. They might not be compatible.

I had the same issue and found it was due to Topaz OFX Plugin.

See: https://community.topazlabs.com/t/topaz ... -1/89172/7

I'm on Windows. To fix it I renamed the folder to

C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX.BACKUP

If you're running into Resolve crashes on Windows, go to the Resolve Help menu and select "Create Diagnostics Log on Desktop." Also, create a MSinfo32 info file by selecting Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Information, then choosing Save. Now, place both files on a download site like Dropbox, post the link here in a forum message and see BMD Support has to say.

Topaz was the issue. I never intentionally installed any plugins. It must have done automatically. I just uninstalled it but if I need it again I will follow you method.
