Auto Cut Freezes at Same Point (No Error Message)

PostThu Apr 24, 2025 5:05 pm

Hey everyone,
I’m currently using DaVinci Resolve 20 Beta 2 and I’m experiencing a critical issue with the new audio-based automatic camera cut feature.

The situation:
I’m editing a talk show using 4 synced cameras and external multichannel audio (4 lav mics recorded separately via Zoom H10).

I’m using the Audio-Only Auto Cut feature, with “Video Analysis” turned OFF.

Every time I run the cut process, Resolve freezes at the exact same point — the progress bar stops at about 25% and never continues.

If I try to cancel the operation, Resolve gets stuck in “Cancelling...” forever, forcing me to terminate the program via Windows Task Manager. No error messages or logs are shown.

What I’ve tried:
Creating separate timelines for each camera, syncing external audio in those timelines, then building the multicam — no success.

Replacing the original in-camera audio with the external Zoom audio for each clip — also didn’t help.

Reimporting all media from scratch.

Creating entirely new multicam timelines.

Testing all available sync methods (waveform only, waveform + timecode).

Removing or replacing specific cameras.

Nothing changes the outcome — it always crashes at the same point, regardless of configuration.

Setup:
DaVinci Resolve 20.0b - Beta 2

Windows 10 Pro 22H2

Audio recorded with Zoom H10 (4 lavs, WAV 48kHz)

Cameras: Sony FX30, Sony A7S II, 2x ZV-E10

All footage in 4K (H.264 or H.265)

Multicam synced via waveform-based audio

This feature would be crucial to our post-production workflow, as we work with long-format talk shows and multiple cameras/mics. Being able to automate camera cuts based on who’s speaking is exactly what we need — but in its current state, the tool is completely unusable for our type of setup.

If anyone else has experienced this or found a workaround, I’d appreciate any help.
And if someone from Blackmagic sees this — it would be amazing if this bug could be addressed in an upcoming beta.

Thanks!

UPDATE – May 2025 (Beta 4)
Just wanted to follow up on this issue after testing it again on DaVinci Resolve 20 Beta 4 — unfortunately, the exact same problem persists.

Even after updating to the latest NVIDIA drivers (as of May 2025), the Audio-Only Auto Cut process still freezes at the same spot during the analysis phase. The progress bar halts (around ~25%) and never completes. Hitting "Cancel" still leaves Resolve stuck on “Cancelling...” indefinitely, requiring a forced shutdown via Task Manager.

Nothing has changed in behavior compared to Beta 2.
Same project structure, same multicam setup with 4 angles and 4 lav mics via Zoom H10.
Same outcome: the feature is completely non-functional in this scenario.

I really hope this can be addressed soon, as this feature would significantly improve our editing workflow for multicam talk shows.

Thanks again,
