Mini panel knobs - values jump in 19

PostTue Oct 08, 2024 4:56 pm

I've noticed something new that seems to coincide with upgrading to 19. The first time I touch knobs on my Mini Panel for a given shot, the values sometimes jump suddenly. An undo will get them back to where they were, and then the knob functions normally. It's a pain, especially with clients in the room. Wondering if it's an issue with my particular panel or maybe an issue with the new firmware? Is anyone else experiencing this?

So, as confirmed in a Facebook Resolve users group, LOTS of people are having this problem.

@Robert: No, this is not on our radar.

Is your panel USB or Ethernet connected?

OK, easy enough to see the issue. It's not 19 specific. Happens in 18.6.6 and 17.4.6 as well.

Seems to happen after power cycling the panel. And then at some point, which i have yet to determine, it stops doing that. And then seems to behave from then on. Until the panel is power cycled.

I'll ask the dev team to take a look.

Want to let you know that I am facing the same issue since upgrading to 19.1. I think it was fine in 19.0.3 though. Direct Ethernet connection.

And to confirm: Only on first use of specific knob/encoder after a power cycle.

I assume this gets addressed in a future firmware upgrade?

Thanks and greetz

It looks like this is related to the panel fw 2.2.1 version. If so, the problem would have been there in any Resolve 19 version.

Issue is being looked into by the dev team.

While we look into this, a short term work around, should you care to do it, would be to install Resolve 18.6.6, open the Panel app and allow it to "update" the panel firmware to version 2.0.

You can see the current panel fw version by pressing the Home button on the panel, then pressing the About soft key. It will likely say Software: Version 2.2.1, if you've updated the panel after installing any Resolve 19 version.

After you've allowed the 18.6.6 Panel app to "upgrade" the panel, it should show version 2.0. And that will not have the knob jumping issue.

Then you can reinstall your preferred Resolve 19 version. Resolve 19 will not bug you about updating the panel fw. You'll only see that if you open the Panel app.

Is there any news on a fix for this? Does going back to 2.0 take away any functionality (e.g. the Colorslice controls)?

I've been seeing this, too, but given that my 'play' button has completely worn through and my 'next clip' is being held in place with gaffer tape, I had assumed it was just another example of how poorly the panel is aging  Glad to hear it's only a fw bug that can be fixed!

Resolve v20 public beta code (1 through 3) has DaVinci Control Panels version 2.3.2, which provides Micro/Mini panel software version 2.3.1.

Panel software 2.3.1 fixes the Mini panel values jump issue.
