New Computer, Increase Difficulty to Use

PostTue May 27, 2025 8:02 am

The lap top I've used for editing with DaVinci Resolve has crashed. I've lost a lot along with that. The computer slid off the coffee table onto the carpet. Somehow, that did it in. Now, I got a more rugged laptop. A refurbished Panasonic Toughbook. When ordering this computer, I'm don't recall exactly what we had talked about with specs. Most things were to install the highest available. Computer finally showed up and I loaded version 19.
The problem being: if I have the Inspector box and the Effects box open at the same time, the video view is very small and partially covered. To work with this, I constantly have to close and reopen both of those boxes to use them. I can't move around the boarders between the boxes to size them where I want.
A couple thoughts. The graphics card might not be a good match. It is an Intel R HD 620 video card with 1024x768. Not sure if this is as good as the computer can use. Or, if there is an upgraded video card that can be put in.
When changing from 18 to 19, the use of favorite Effects changed which required more clicking to use. Not sure if loading 19 into this computer is something different than 19 on my previous computer.

Any other thoughts on this?

thanks,
Mark

I don't think you have a GPU. You have the CPU IGPU.

Anything even a little challenging won't work. If you have lots of memory you might be able to do things slowly but it's never going to do the latest GPU intensive things.

In 2025 1024x768 is nothing.

For Resolve you need at least 1920x1080 and possibly a second monitor connected to the laptop (mind you, not all laptops support that).

You need to share the specs of the laptop - do you need a laptop in the first place?
Laptops might not be the best choice for Resolve I'm afraid.

But let's start with the specs of the machine you have. I have a bad feeling about that! :)
DaVinci Resolve Studio 19.1.3
Ryzen 5700X - 32GB RAM - 4TB USB4 SSD - RTX 3070 8GB
Windows 10 22H2
Mac Mini M4 16GB - 256GB
