Fairlight Mixing/Editing Console functionality in DR 20

PostSat May 31, 2025 9:40 pm

Hello everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone with the Fairlight console(s) can tell me if any of the prior bugs/ issues were fixed in DR 20 and/or any additional functionality was added (such as the ability to control the new EQ process).

Also, if anyone also uses the Izotope plugins, such as RX, if there is any control over those through the consoles.

I'm trying to decide if purchasing a 5 year old piece of hardware is worthwhile-- and part of that is if known old bugs are being ironed out, and if new functionality is being developed in concert with that hardware. Most of the reviews I've seen were just from borrowed units, and don't appear to be in use by those individuals any longer.

Any and all insight is greatly appreciated!

Which Fairlight Console bugs are you referring to?

Are you able to provide specific examples and a description of how to reproduce the issue?

The Fairlight 6 band Clip EQ is available on the Fairlight Editor panel from the Clip menu > Clip EQ.

The Fairlight EQ AFX has been mapped for use from the Plugin layout on the Fairlight Editor's Pad.

Also, if anyone also uses the Izotope plugins, such as RX, if there is any control over those through the consoles
The iZotope RX Advanced VST2.4 plugins from version 7 and the VST3 plugins from versions 9 and 10 have been mapped to the Fairlight Editor panel's Plugin layout.
Fairlight Studio Console 3 Bay • Merging Hapi • Anubis • Merging Premium VAD (3.5.0) ↔︎ Lawo VSC (1.0.0)
Mac Pro 7,1 Rack • Resolve Studio 20.0 • macOS 15.5 (24F74) ➩ 11" iPad Pro (M4) 1TB • iPadOS 18.5 (22F76)

Here is an example of one of the bugs:

Thanks for the responses on Izotope. Were more than 2 banks of the rotary knobs now made available for more advanced plugins as described here in the same video:

Lastly, is there a firmware update change-log available anywhere to see how Blackmagic is addressing these kinds of issues?

To be clear, are you talking about the desktop fairlight console or the fairlight audio editing console? My questions were specifically related to the mixer.

I outlined the implementation with the Fairlight Console/Desktop Audio Editor panel.

It was not clear in your initial post if you were referring to the Desktop Console or the modular Fairlight Advanced Console (Audio Editor, Channel Fader, Channel Control panels).
