DaVinci Resolve Studio 20 Effects panel in the center

PostWed May 28, 2025 11:05 am

Hello everyone,
i've just updated to DaVinci 20. I have noticed the effects panel is no longer on the bottom left side next to the timeline, instead is opening in the middle next to the video previews. This happens on different timeline formats like 16x9 and 9x16.

Is there any way to move the effects pannel on the bottom left next to the timeline?

This happens on macOS and Windows 11 in absolutely the same way. I'm attaching screeshots to show the problem.

Click the Expand button. (Down arrow left of Media Pool icon, upper left of GUI.)
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

But when i open 9x16 (vertical timeline for story, reel formats), that arrow is inactive and the effects panel is in the the top middle space on the layout (screenshot below)

I know it's been a while since this was posted, so not sure if you ever found the solution but was struggling with the same issue for a while and was such a pain trying to find a fix...

If you want to show the Medial Pool and Effects stacked for Vertical Video, you'll have to disable "Use Optimized UI layouts for vertical video" under User Preferences > UI settings - see below:

ZOG! You are the man! Great tip, I can't believe they didn't default to this, it's much more like we are used to.
