I'm really into growing files lately, to eventually do some live editing in resolve. But I keep getting bad results. (slow/unpredictable/unreliable updates) So I tested a lot of different things, codecs, different file locations, different "segments", etc. For recording, I used software like softron movierecorder, OBS and Vmix.
Just now I also tested it with an Atem mini pro (with SSD connected to the usb output of the Atem), and accessed the SSD via the Ethernet port which is directly connected to the hub of my Mac Studio, and I got stable updates every 5/6 seconds. much better! I'd like "realtime" eventually, but I can live with this for now.
But this doesn't feel logical, as it has to go through both ethernet and usb, while testing with the the other software, resolve was reading the files directly from the desktop, which in theory should be much faster.
For good measure I also placed the growing files from softron on the atem-ssd via the ethernet port, so essentially the exact same route to resolve. But this also gave bad results.
I'm kinda lost. What exactly is the reason why every recording software gives "bad" results, while the atem-route gives better results? Will it also be better with an atem with 10Gb connection, instead of 1Gb? (by the way, premiere handles the files from anywhere pretty well, but the quickest setting is 10 seconds)
eventually I'd like to have the flexibility to work with softron.
