DaVinci Resolve unusable on new PC

So I worked with DaVinci Resolve 19 on an older computer with no problems whatsoever, but since I recently put together a new PC (with specs listed as below), my DVR is pretty much unusable most of the time because:

It freezes and stutters constantly as soon as I load/create a project, and that's even with an empty timeline AND empty media pool. Even opening preferences or project settings takes about 10 seconds and switching between pages (Edit, Fusion, Color, Fairlight etc.) makes DVR show as not responding but after about 5 - 10 seconds it loads that page, but doing any other process like putting something from the media pool to timeline or playback or anything takes up to 30 seconds of DVR being completely frozen.

I set the system memory limits on max, discrete GPU with CUDA processing since I have nVidia, proxy generation, installed latest Studio drivers and tried Game Ready Drivers too, latest DVR 19.1.3 build 7, latest windows drivers - everything.

DVR hits barely 20% of CPU usage when not responding/freezing, less than 3 GB of RAM and about 15% of GPU usage on the discrete GPU (0% on integrated GPU, so it's definitely not using that one)

Funny thing is that DVR ran perfectly on my older system:

OS: Windows 10 Home 64-bit
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3070
RAM: 32 GB DDR4 3600 MHz
SSD: WD Blue Nvme 1TB

While it's a nightmare on my new one:

OS: Windows 11 Home 64-bit
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700X
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3070
RAM: 32 GB DDR5 7000 MHz
SSD: Kingston KC3000 NVMe 4TB

It's been several days of restarts, reinstalls, voodoo, praying and everything else works perfectly on the new PC but DVR just refuses to work at all. Somebody help please, this is going to make me lose my job...

Its hot garbage, been having issues for so long with it. Unable to edit anything larger than a few minutes.

If you're running into Resolve crashes on Windows, go to the Resolve Help menu and select "Create Diagnostics Log on Desktop." Also, create a MSinfo32 info file by selecting Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Information, then choosing Save.

Now, place both files on a download site like Dropbox, post the link here in a forum message and see BMD Support has to say.

By Using DVR On Windows 10 Home, You Are Totally Isolated From Background Processing Induced By Windows Updating Services, Because, You Can't Go Higher Than Windows 10 22H2.
On Windows 11 Home, You Can't Stop Background Updates (Because Windows 11 Is Performing Its Update\Feature Patching Routine Which Affects Your Active Applications).

Solution ?

Upgrade To Windows 11 (24H2) LTSC Or Downgrade To Windows 10 (21H2) LTSC, Which Will Gives You The Total Control Over Unstoppable Background Updates (By Using Group Policy Editor Utility To Stop Windows Updating Services), In Conjunction With, Amazing Performance & Stability For Your Various Applications.

While it's true that updates cannot be postponed on a Home edition, Windows will not perform updates 24/7!

Also, my understanding is that on a Pro version you have a bit more control but updates will still happen. If you really want to make sure that nothing in the background happens, you can try disabling the network temporarily and see if that helps.

On the issue, that is weird indeed. Please send the logs as instructed.

It's a long shot but can you check the temperatures? The 7000 series like (!) to run very hot, I'm wondering if something went wrong with the installation and somehow the CPU is throttling all the time.

If you run a benchmark (cpu-z or cinebench) do you get comparable results with other 7000 owners?
Also, check the SSD performance with crystaldiskmark. I know it's unlikely but we have to start from somewhere.

One last thing - which will be visible from the logs - are you definitely plugged into the GPU and NOT on the motherboard's HDMI socket?

Iliescu, Resolve is not "hot garbage". It is more likely your computer, its configuration, or conflict with other software that is causing the problem. Post log and NFO files so others can attempt a diagnosis.

That's not a "stock" option, it requires a registry hack. And I am confident Microsoft will find a way to revert it at some point.
The point is: there is nothing wrong with updates. They are not the issue here. And stopping updates forever on an online machine just makes your computer more vulnerable.

But the bottom line is: the updates are not the issue here.

When Windows starts an update I have found it will take at least three" check updates" followed by a complete shut and restart. IF you just let it do one then another will come tomorrow and upset tomorrows work. I now do this on all the PC's in the house when one of them wants to shut down to complete its update. Just do two more on that PC and then go around all the others. Three update checks with full shut down. This seems to work for me. I too had found all sorts of issues with Win update but since adopting this approach seems OK. Most of time seems unnecessary but it seems to find things to update every time !! A half updated PC can give all sorts of problems.I have had USB connection issues, audio, video locked programs !!!

V20 has worked fine on my PC's. The Studio Max locks up occasionally on loading and has to be forced close. Then works OK the second time.

This Guy Uses The Same GPU (3070) And The Same Family Of CPU (Ryzen) Without Any Noticeable Loads Inside Davinci Resolve. Despite Using 3TB Nvme & 32GB of Ram Clocked @ 7000 MHz (DDR5), His Machine Freezes During Any Action Inside DVR's Interface. The OP Is About To Lose His Job, And You're Trying To Help Him With :

7000mhz ram is unusual on a 7700X, try running at 6000mhz 1:1 with Infinity Fabric (3000mhz)

If it makes no difference return to previous settings.

As this guy posted this originally in March he either has figured it already out or has had lost his job. Without any further information this here just becomes guesswork.
