Black flash on Resolve GUI bug Windows only

PostTue Jun 03, 2025 5:34 pm

Ever since I started using Resolve on Windows 11 (after using it for a year in my Mac Studio), I noticed something right away, that there were certain things that would trigger a kind of black flash, which sometimes would show as a weird deformed grid or net. That was the case back in January when I built this machine and Resolve was 19. something, and persisted once I installed all the Resolve Studio betas and now the final release. I had never seen anything like it on my Mac Studio.

This happens mostly in the media page, but also in the edit and color pages. It can be when I hover over an effect in the effects panel, or in the color page when I hover a node. Sometimes, changing a parameter in an FX triggers it. For one, it's rather annoying after happening several times per day, but also it gives me that feeling that Resolve is going to crash. Now, it hasn't happened yet, but you know something is not right when the screen flashes like that, and there's no other program in my PC that does that, including Fusion Studio.

I tried to capture this using OBS Studio, but for some reason when I'm recording it doesn't do the full grid/net effect, but just a black flash. However, when I imported that recording into Resolve, and I got to the frames with the black flash, I noticed something interesting:

The first one is the only one that shows a bit of that grid, on the left, which is weird because normally it appears on the right of the screen. And you can see also that in that specific moment, the monitor part of the Resolve GUI is the only thing on the screen. That is the case every single time this happens. I recorded about five minutes of me using Resolve and this happened several times, and when I put the recording on the timeline, each time it happened I put a marker, and I ended up with about 20 markers, so this happens quite a lot.

Has anyone else seen this?

My card is an Asus RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB, with the studio driver up to date. Windows 11 and the rest of the drivers are all up to date as well.

Edit: I finally was able to capture a flash that showed more of that black net thing:

Is the GPU set to output 10-bit? Just curious, as I've seen some flashing since I switched the GUI monitor from 8-bit to 10-bit.

You mean in the Nvidia settings? I don't see any way to set it to 10 bit, but I use both monitors in SDR. The display settings in Windows tell me it's 8 bit:

Yes, I mean in the Windows Display Settings that you show in the screenshot. Windows will make the 10-bit setting available if the GPU is connected to a 10-bit capable monitor.
